Copycat Fried Chicken Sandwich
To recreate this hybrid of the Chick-fil-A® and Popeyes® favorited menu items, we start by whisking up our simple marinade consisting of buttermilk, salt, hot sauce, and the secret weapon of flavor…dry ranch dressing mix. After cutting diagonal slits in the thickest parts of our chicken breasts, we toss them in the mixture and let them marinate for a few hours to soak up the goodness. During this time, we can focus on making our easy breading of flour, cornstarch, salt, pepper, cayenne, and more of the ranch dressing mix, as well as our wash of egg, buttermilk, and milk in separate bowls. We then pull our chicken breasts out using a fork and coat them in breading, followed by our wash, back to breading, before we repeat this process again, making sure we’re shaking off excess after each dip. Then it’s time to let our coating dry on a wire rack for 15 minutes before we deep-fry them golden in hot oil. Just transfer to crumbled up aluminum foil that’s been set on a plate to prevent soggy bottoms, and then prep those sandwiches! Spread some mayonnaise, pickles, and finish with our chicken. There you have it! Skip those lines and chow down, even on Sundays. Get Chef John’s recipe for Copycat Fried Chicken Sandwich.
