American French Onion Soup

In this video, you’ll see how to take classic French onion soup and give it a few purely American twists to make it even more delicious—or at least differently delicious! The first twist is to slice the onions into something more like chunks, replacing the thin “French” slivers. These Americanized onions won’t slip off the spoon and dangle on your chin, French-style. Another twist is to caramelize the onions mostly in the oven instead of on the stovetop. Chef John will also show you how to make crispy homemade croutons.
