Bread and Butter Pickles
Take part in some Depression-era culinary history by making these pickles and enjoy a batch of the crunchiest, sweet-tart pickles ever! When food was low, these pickles were a mainstay for buttered bread sandwiches, and though times have certainly become better, these pickles still taste delicious. Combine cucumbers with onion, red Fresno peppers (or any pepper you prefer) and plenty of salt to infuse with salty goodness. After you’ve rinsed the veggies thoroughly, drop them in a brine of vinegar, mustard seed, celery seed, cloves, turmeric, black peppercorns and garlic. In minutes you’ll have compulsively snackable pickles! Get the recipe for Chef John's Bread and Butter Pickles.
