How to Make Arepas

In this video, you’ll see how to make homemade arepas. These simple white cornmeal cakes are fried to a beautiful golden brown and stuffed with all manner of good stuff. The result is a savory cake with the perfect blend of textures. The outside is crispy and crunch, the inside moist, soft, and a little chewy. This is just how you make them. You can shape them by pretending like you are clapping but with the "golf ball" of dough in between your hands. Once you find the appropriate thickness and arepa shape you "caress" the side to avoid the cracked look and make it round and nice. If it's too thick you'll burn the outside while the inside will remain raw... and if it's too thin you'll have to forget about opening it. It's a matter of taste. Some people scoop the inside soft dough out and butter it, add some cheese on top and eat it separately with a fork. YUM
