I would also add some cumin, unsweetened cocoa and lime juice.

Sorry, but those are not Cuban black beans. You need to omit the cilantro and make first a sofrito with the onions, the garlic and a big green pepper, then add the cooked beans (better if you don't use canned) and add bay leaf, cumin and oregano. Let simmer for 30 min an before turning the heat off add olive oil and a hint of vinegar. YUM!
