Brown Sugar Smokies

See how to make a 5-star appetizer recipe that’s super quick and easy. The sweet taste of brown sugar and the smoky flavor of bacon and sausage combine to form the perfect sweet-salty-savory snack. Enjoy them hot from the oven speared with wooden skewers or toothpicks. These bacon-wrapped little smokies may be the yummiest food on a stick ever. Make a double batch for your party because these will go in a hot second. For extra smoky flavor, you can also toss them on a hot grill! These are so good. I made them for my DH birthday party and they were the first things gone! I love the idea of cooking them on skewers. I will be adding this to my Superbowl party menu!

My son has been making these with hot dogs for years and years. He calls them heart attack on a stick.

A similar salty-sweet but less fatty hor d'ouevre: slice open a dried date, prune or apricot, insert a toasted almond or walnut half (toast beforehand in toaster oven), wrap with piece of bacon, insert small toothpick and bake in oven 350 or so until most of fat rendered from bacon.
