Classic Green Beans au Gratin
Give your family a new holiday tradition with Chef John’s classic green bean au gratin casserole. Start out by cleaning and trimming fresh green beans and then boiling them in a large pot of salted water until just barely tender. Transfer them into a bowl of cold tap water to stop the cooking process, then drain and layer in a buttered casserole dish. Season with a little salt, pepper, and a touch of Dijon mustard, then pour heavy cream on top and sprinkle with Comte and Parmigiano-Reggiano cheeses. Mix up an easy “au gratin” topping of melted butter and bread crumbs and add that as the finishing touch. After 15 to 20 minutes in the oven, this creamy, rich au gratin casserole starring fresh green beans is ready to enjoy! Get Chef John's recipe for Classic Green Beans au Gratin.
