Detroit Hot Honey Wings
A sweet, spicy wing recipe that is amazing on the grill! This is a Detroit recipe, so enjoy!
Detroit-Style Pizza
Forget the old Chicago vs. NY debate! America's best pizza could very well be Detroit-style pizza. Even though it's often referred to as 'deep dish,' I don't think that accurately captures the essence of this crispy, crusty, crazy-good slice. It has flavor elements of a slightly charred thin-crust pizza, with the texture of light, airy focaccia. Plus, if you use the properly shaped pan, the edges of your crust get wonderfully crunchy, making for a truly unique experience.
Kielbasa and Cabbage
This smoked Polish sausage dish is great for company, but quick enough for a weeknight! It is super good and easy, and can be prepared well in advance. Complete your meal by adding a baked potato, fruit salad, and bread.
Pasties II
A traditional Upper Peninsula of Michigan treat! Complete with rutabaga! I am from the UP and this is the real deal! Rub pasties with a little milk for a golden color.
Coney Island Hot Dogs
The story of how the Coney Island hog dog got to the Midwest is pretty straightforward, but no one really knows exactly how the wiener first came to be topped with what is basically a hot meat relish. I have no idea how authentic this is, and have never been to Detroit, or even Flint. I have had Nathan'sĀ® version, which I enjoyed, but the word on the street is that it's not nearly as good as the relatives it spawned.
Cream Cheese Kolacky
The dough for these cookies is what makes them exceptional. I always quadruple this recipe for the holidays. Most popular fillings are peach, apricot, raspberry and date. Use your imagination! This year I'm trying Michigan cherry preserves and cranberry marmalade. You better hide a few for Christmas day--these are the ones that go first!
Cinnamon Ice Cream
This is a delicious treat. It reminds of the cinnamon ice cream I used to get at Ray's Ice Cream in Detroit!
Kim's Zippy Sauce
This is the famous zip sauce that goes with steak served locally in Detroit. It really brings out the best in beef, and adds a spicy punch to the flavor.
Cornish Finnish Michigan Pasties
I make these pasties about once a month for my family and extended family. I weigh my ingredients for accuracy and flavor.
Jalapeno Poppers of Champions
I fashioned this delicious snack especially for Super Bowl XL! My vegetarian and non-vegetarian friends alike will be enjoying these as we root for our beloved Seattle Seahawks. Detroit 'Hawk City!!!
Grandma Slattery's Michigan Sauce
This is a Meat Sauce from Upstate New York that is used on top of Hot Dogs. When I grew up it was used on steamed hot dogs and steamed rolls, sometimes with raw onions (for those who like them) on top! Very good... thanks Grandma Slattery for getting the recipe!
Pierogi Casserole
Full of flavor, this pierogi casserole is nothing short of rich and hearty. It's a wonderful change from the usual humdrum casserole.
