German Chocolate Bars


These German chocolate bars with caramel are just like German chocolate cake, but you can eat them with your hands!

  • 1 (14 ounce) package individually wrapped caramels, unwrapped

  • cup sweetened condensed milk

  • 1 (18.25 ounce) package German chocolate cake mix

  • ¾ cup butter, melted

  • ½ cup sweetened condensed milk

  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips

  • 1 cup chopped walnuts


  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking dish.

  2. Melt caramels with 1/3 cup condensed milk in a microwave-safe bowl in the microwave; stir every 30 seconds. Set aside.

  3. Combine cake mix, melted butter, and 1/2 cup condensed milk in a large bowl; stir well. Spread 1/2 of the cake mix mixture in the prepared pan.

  4. Bake in the preheated oven for 6 to 8 minutes.

  5. Remove from the oven and cover with caramel mixture, chocolate chips, and nuts. Spread remaining cake mix mixture on top. Bake for 10 more minutes.
