  • To make the topping, in a small bowl mix the sugar, cinnamon and finely chopped walnuts. Set aside.

  • In a medium bowl combine flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside.

  • In a separate large bowl cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla extract, and mix well. Gradually beat in flour mixture alternately with buttermilk. Stir in apples, walnuts, and semi-sweet chocolate chips. Pour into a greased 9x5x3 inch loaf pan. Sprinkle with topping.

  • Bake in a preheated 350 degree F (175 degree C) oven for 50 to 60 minutes. Cool for 15 minutes. Remove from pan. Cool on a wire rack.

Didn't find it anything special. Just a sweet bread. The topping is messy as it doesn't adhere to the dough. The moment you touch the bread a shower of topping ends of all over the table and the floor. Read More

I really enjoyed this one... Very good for the fall & winter seasons... Goes good with a glass of warm apple cider... I am not a "nut" fan so I made mine without and just loved it... I also completely forgot about the crumb topping and it turned out just fine... Next time I'll be sure to include that part of the recipe as I'm sure it would only make it better! This one will be a sure bet around the holidays... Read More
