This is a basic kugel recipe. The noodles get very crispy and the onion gives this kugel a great taste.

Instructions Checklist
  • Fill a large pot with lightly salted water and bring to a rolling boil over high heat. Once the water is boiling, stir in the egg noodles, and return to a boil. Cook the pasta uncovered, stirring occasionally, until the pasta has cooked through, but is still firm to the bite, about 5 minutes. Drain well in a colander set in the sink.

  • Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.

  • Heat the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Stir in the onion; cook and stir until the onion has softened and turned translucent, about 5 minutes. Reduce heat to medium-low, and continue cooking and stirring until the onion is golden brown, 10 to 15 minutes more. Meanwhile, combine eggs, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Stir in the noodles and onion. Pour noodle mixture into the prepared baking dish and cover with aluminum foil.

  • Bake in the preheated oven until noodles are golden brown, 45 minutes to 1 hour.

I think it's unfair that someone commenting here changed the recipe and then gave two stars based on their changed version of the recipe. Seriously? So here are five stars to make up for it. This recipe is delicious. Read More

Pretty bland and dry. Not bad as a side in a meal that has lots of other flavours but it's definitely not sufficient as a main. Read More

I've never made a kugel but gave this a try and it seems like it's a good basic recipe that you could change up however you wanted. I cut the number of eggs by half and added sour creme. Next time I will use this as a base skip the onions and add raisins and pinapple instead. Read More

I cut the recipe in half and made as written. This is good! It was much better than I had anticipated. It could maybe use more flavor yes but it was the perfect side to my Currywurst and the noodles soaked up the sauce from that. Simple and straight forward and those are the best kinds of recipes in my opinion! Read More
