OMG! Whats cooking tonight. My family loved this meal. After reading the reviews I cooked my dish in a slow cooker and only used one can of condense soup. A really great tasting meal and you would not know it was cook in lemon-lime drink unless you saw me as I prepared the meal. Will cook again. Also since I used a slow cooker high 6hours very tender.
The flavor of this was wonderful; however, the gravy was a little thin. I think next time I will cut the 7-Up in half.
My husband and I really liked this recipe but when I make this again I will only use the flakes of the onion soup mix because it was way to salty. I also didn't have any carbonated beverages in the house so I just added some milk because it was to thick without. Not sure what the difference would have made of the flavor but I will try. The meat was nice and tender I put it in the slow cooker about 7 hours.
Husband loved it. Kids ate it. I thought it was good, but happier when kids love it too.
I did not care for this.
Even though I made some changes it still turned out good. I did not use the cajun seasoning and instead of soda I used water. I also pan fried my steak and mixed all the ingredients together in a bowl and poured the mixture over the steak while they were cooking on the stove. Yummy i will do this again.
turned out great! i split the spride with water1:2 no other changes
I wasn't that impressed.
Unbelievably easy!! The taste was great...gravy was amazing. Even my daughter loved it. This may become one of our easy stand-bys for the future...
very good and easy to make husband loved it would make it again,
It was runny, but still delicious
This was ok. The gravy was awesome, but the steaks were not tender. I might try this again and cook for only 40 to 45 minutes. Also, I used one can of cream of mushroom and one can of cream of chicken because that is what I had on hand.
Being on a low carb diet, I changed the recipe a little and used Sprite Zero and low fat cream of mushroom soup. The gravy was very tasty...meat a little tough (not terrible though, my husband liked it and he is very picky). Wonder if it is because of the variation.
The gravy for this was excellent, but the meat wasn't very tender. I followed the recipe exactly, except I used garlic instead of cajun seasoning. But Maybe I didn't put enough Sprite in there to completely tenderize the meat. All in all was a great meal! This recipe would be excellent with some pork chops, or maybe some ground beef patties.
I gave this 4 stars even though it didn't turn out for me. I wanted to use a crockpot since other reviews stated this helped make it tender. However I guess my crockpot was too large cause it was way overcooked even on lowest setting. This was my first attempt with cube steak and I was so disappointed I doubt I will try again.
This was a big hit with my kids, but not so much with my husband. That's the weird part, because he will eat ANYTHING. I personally cannot vouch for the taste because after mixing it up and putting it all together in the pan, it looked extremely unappetizing and I could not bring myself to eat it. It did smell good while cooking, though. I followed a few reviewer's suggestions, and my steaks still ended up a bit tough. Overall, I'll probably make it again, but only in a pinch if I can't think of anything else to make.
My husband LOVES this recipe!! The only chane I made is I use garic/onion seasoning instead of cajun.
This was very good for a cold fall day. I baked this in a 9 x 13 pan with one can of sprite, one can of cream of mushroom soup, and one env. onion soup mix. I did cover with foil and it turned out very tender & lots of gravy. Yummmmm
Much too salty for my taste. Would try again with no sodium boullion and maybe either chopped fresh onion or dried onion. Also low salt cream of mushroom soup.
Very good, I left out the cajon seaoning. very easy and tasty. I served over rice. Doesn't make good leftovers though(if there is any left) thecube steaks will get tough.
We it a lot! I didn't have any Sprite so I just used some water. Added quite a bit of onion and yummy!!
Not bad at all, even though the sauce was way too salty. I ended up cooking the steaks for about 90 mins as I was waiting for some potatoes to finish baking - I'm not sure if this made any difference but the steaks were exceptionally tender. I would make this again but would definitely play around with the ingredients - fresh sliced onion instead of onion soup mix; diced mushrooms etc etc.
Excellent recipe and easy to make. Loved it!
My husband loved this recipe, and actually took the leftover steak and put it on a grinder roll with swiss cheese for lunch, eating it cold..... will definately make it again. I rolled the steak in the flour first and used cream of chicken soup instead of the mushroom... thanks for sharing its a keeper.
Maybe it is just me......but this was a disaster. The lemon lime flavored soda was not a good idea. It was sweet and disgusting...... 86 the soda.... just saying. I was all excited about this recipe too.
my husband said I outdid myself! If only he knew How EASY! i loved the gravy also. served with scalloped corn and mashed potatoes. thank you!
I liked it but my family just thought it was okay. I would make it again if I had cube steak and did not know what to do with it. It definitely gives us a very tender cube steak! But reminds me more of a pot roast in the end.
This was good but not terrific. If I'm in a pinch I would make it again but wouldn't seek it out to do over and over again.
Well I tried this, and it had a good flavor, and my husband said it was good, but to me the meat was alittle too tuff. I had thought that it would come out more tender than it did.
My husband went on and on about this. I used a 1.25 pounds of cubed steak only a cup of sprite and 3 cans of cream style soup. It was definitely salty but it was very good.
We just did not like this at all. I followed the directions exactly but it was just not for us. The gravy was too sweet and the meat was too chewy. Sorry.
We really did not like this recipe, but I think the problem was the cut of meat. The gravy was good. The flavor of the meat was notbad, but the meat itself was kind of tough and stringy, I guess. It was the first time I cooked cube steaks. I woul dconsider trying tis recipe again -- maybe witha different cut of beeef.
After reading reviews that gravy was too sweet, I decided to use beer instead (plus, no lemon lime soda in houes). Was very good. Cooked uncovered -- 1 hr 40 min -- until gravy was at desired consistency (stirred @ 1 hr). Served with mashed potatoes. Will make again.
Ijust wanted to add that my Husband ate this and wanted to eat more but decided not to over do it. He said these were the best cubed steaks he's ever tasted. I am not a great cook, so I depend alot on the reviews of others and of course the cooks who submit their recipes. This one I have to say was a hit. I followed the recipe but I made a couple of changes. I'm not big on mushrooms, so I use cream of chicken instead and I didn't have any cajun spices on hand so I just used the seasonings I had. This turned out great. I will definitely make this again and again. Thanks so much Karissak for submitting this recipe.
Very yummy night of, but the leftovers were definitely a little gross looking..
This was sooooooo good! Highly recommended for something easy & tender!! The cube steak was very juicy and tender, not tough, like other recipes I have used. My husband wasn't too sure about it, but he loved it! And the kids did too. I will definitely use this more often! Thanks.
Delicious, and so very easy! I changed a few things...used McCormack broiled steak seasoning salt instead of the cajun stuff, and I dredged the meat in flour also. This made a lot of gravy, so the next time I will either cut back to just one can of soup, or make extra rice for leftovers. Even our two-year-old loved the meat, and she's kind of picky!
A little to much cajun pepper and black pepper. I'll try this one again but I'm gonna half those 2 ingredients...other than that, its good.
Excellent recipie. I used low sodium mushroom soup so it wasn't too salty and sierra mist for the soda. I also used very little cajun seasoning and just let the onion soup mix work for the seasoning on its own. It was great!
I used Creole seasoning and cream of chicken soup, added half a sliced onion, and didn't exactly measure the spices. It turned out great, and we ate it over rice. I'll definitely make it again. Very easy to whip up.
Great change from chicken fried have made this twice
I did not care for this at all. Tasted too much like a plain old 'roast'. I also did not like the texture of the meat. I think I will stick with chicken frying my cube steaks - but thanks to the poster for sharing their recipe - I seem to be in the minority.
Great recipe, easy & good
What a novel way to cook cubed steaks to make them tender and juicy! Did these up last night anf followed the recipe to a T except I used Ginger Ale instead of Lemon Lime soda (sounded too sweet for me). Meat came out fully cooked and fork tender - no knife needed to cut it. Great flavor! Gravy it makes is also delicious. Served them with mashed potatoes and Mexican corn. Will definitely make these again. Thanks for the recipe and great cooking method!
This is a great recipe to use for making really tender cubed steaks. I added fresh white mushrooms. The flavor was quite good (especially when you pour the sauce over mashed potatoes), but I had to give it 4 stars only because I personally prefer a rich brown gravy sauce over my cubed steaks. Will definately make again as there were no complaints from the family.
The ingredients alone scared me, but I wanted a new recipe for cubes steaks because my husband loves them. However he hated Comforting Cubes steaks. He said for me to stick to my original recipe. Therefore this recipe was not for our family. Sorry
Pretty good ! Will make it again !
I followed the instructions exactly except that I did not have cajun seasoning and used season-all salt. I also let it cook an extra 1/2 hour because cube steak can be so tuff. It was so bad that we each took one bite and put it back on the platter. It tasted more like liver than cube steak. Thank goodness we had enough salad and fruit to take it's place!
Made this today and turned out yummy. I didnt have canun seasoning or french onion soup mix. I wouldnt have used canun anyway as im sensitive to spices but i used a custom herb mix my bf’s aunt makes plus pepper, worcestshire, some garlic. I sauted onions and mushrooms first, added lemon lime soda and 2 cans of cream of mushroom and layered with meat in crockpot. Since i didnt have french onion soup mix i used a brown gravy mix packet. All this combined and few hours in crockpot meat was so tender it was falling apart. We spooned on top of mash potatos with green beans. Very good!
Pretty good! I omitted the Cajun seasoning and baked them at 350 degrees. Interesting blend of ingredients.
This recipe was great! My 6 and 8 year olds asked for seconds and thirds. I had to deny them the fourth helping so that Dad would have something to eat. I used only 1 can of soft drink, 1 can of cream of chicken soup, prepared my own flour and seasoning mixture and then dredged the steaks with the mixture. The steaks were very tender and had a great taste. I did cook them for about 2 hours however. Excellent recipe. I will be making that again soon.
Incredibly easy. I used ginger ale because that was what I had on hand. Didn't add quite a full can (3/4 maybe?). Also didn't have Cajun seasoning so made up something using garlic powder, seasoned salt, paprika, ground pepper, and a little ginger, ground mustard, and red pepper. I suspect you can use anything (the red pepper gave it a subtle kick and will use again). Next time I'll add potatoes and onions to the pan. Either way, this was quick, easy, and good!
This was very good and my steaks were nice and tender. My deviations from the recipe: I browned them in my cast iron skillet then deglazed the pan with a bit of wine, added the rest of ingredients and popped in the oven for an hour and a half. For soda I used club soda and my soup was one cr. mushroom and one cr. celery. I served over rice and everyone liked it. It was a bit salty so I may substitute a real onion for onion soup mix and use low sodium soups. Oh, I added in a can of mushrooms too because, why not? My gravy was very thick and plentiful.
Very good recipe. Gravy is too thin. How do I thicken it up next time?
i have always had trouble cooking tender cube steak. This recipe was quick and easy. And it wasn't tough.
My family loves this. I didn't have cajun seasoning so i used soul seasoning. Following the recipe exactly, the steaks were slightly tough. This time when I made it, I put everything together the day before and let the steaks sit in the soda and soup mix overnight in the fridge. Also, I lowered the temp and baked it 4 hrs at 200 degrees. it was SO tender and delicious!!!
These were the best cube steaks I ever had!! I didn't have Cajun seasoning on hand so I found a recipe for it on here (all recipes of course) and made it. They were so tender and very flavorful! I baked for 1 hour like it said uncovered but my husband was gonna be another hour before he was home from work so I covered it with aluminum foil and it cooked another hour. There was lots of gravy or juice in pan so it was fine cooking that extra hour. We had it with boiled potato's and it was good with the gravy on them as well. Thank you for the great recipe!
This is a great recipe that doesn't take much effort to make. My boyfriend and I loved it and I'll definitely be making this again. Thanks!
This is a great recipe. The cube were very tender when they were done cooking. The only things I changed were that I used water instead of oil, used garlic powder, sea salt, pepper, thyme as seasoning, no soda at all, and put a lid over it to keep meat moist during cooking process . Lastly, didn't make broth into gravy. Kept it as a broth.
Made a mistake. Did not bake it. It was ok but will try it again this time baked. Why do you not let it be printed?
I made this for 2 people, using the ingredients I had on hand. I sprayed a crockpot with canola oil, put a layer of sliced onions on the bottom, added the seasoned steaks, using salt, pepper, garlic powder, ginger ale' 2 cans of cream of mushroom soup. Cooked on high heat for 4 hrs. Meat was fork tender and tasty, used the soup over mashed potatoes.
this is so freaking good i think im going to die mwahahahahahahahah only you can prevent a forest fire, be cool stay in school, trees=napkins napkins=trees
Much, much too sweet. We made recipe as is, and will not do so again.
I was wondering how this would turn out because of the mix of ingredients. I was delighted. It was great made just how the directions said.
This was yummy!! I didnt use the cajun seasoning , used salt and pepper instead. My family loved it. Its a nice warm meal after a day spent outside in the cold. Will definatly make is again...
Turned out great!
We absolutely loved this recipe. I put it in the crockpot on low before going to work & it was perfect when I arrived home. We served it with mashed potatoes and green beans. The gravy was better than I expected and we will make this recipe again and again. It will make a perfect freezer meal to prepare ahead of time. Thank you!! ****I just wanted to add that we tried this recipe with chicken breast and a pouch of dried vegetable dip mix, and it was just as wonderful. I've shared this recipe with many people and it never fails. We've made it 5 times since discovering it.****
The gravy was good, exceptional no. I would consider making again but wouldn't make it a regular menu item.
Great recipe! I used the low salt versions of the soups as suggested. Also I cooked it for 2 and a half hours. This cut of steak needs way more than an hour to be tender.
I made a few changes, but it turned out very good. I left off the Cajun seasoning, used about 1/2 c. white cooking wine and about 1/2 soup can of water instead of soda. I baked it on 300 for 1 hour & 45 minutes. The rest I left the same. It turned out VERY tender and moist. The gravy is runny, but tasty. I think it will thicken up after it sits for a bit.
easy to make & delicious!
Didn't care for this recipe at all. Too many strage flavors going on (e.g. cajun seasoning with Sprite). I suppose for some, it would be a zingy twist, but for me, I ended up not eating all of it. Perhaps if I made it with less seasoning and no Sprite?
Wow! I’ve never had cube steak so tender before! I used a generous sprinkling of garlic seasoning, salt, and pepper instead of creole, but followed the rest of the recipe. I would say next time I’ll use either a little less lemon-lime soda or a thickener as I used 8 cube steaks and it was still a little too thin. I put this on a bed of egg noodles. Wonderful!
This was good. Did not add the Cajun seasoning - but did put seasoned salt on them. Added onion instead of Lipton soup mix. Made in slow cooker and was tender and had a nice gravy.
Second time to make this dish. I like to use one can of golden mushroom soup in place on of the the cream of mushrooms. This is easy enough dish that even the husband can make it.
Not a bad recipe did some changing: reduced lemon/lime soda to about 3/4 of a soup can - mixed with the rest of the stuff. Added 3 good dashes of worctershire sauce and 2 good squirts of ketchup. Will make again. Thanks.
I made this right by the recipe and it was delicious. Everyone liked it and my husband even claimed it was "His" venison recipe. Next time I might add some green pepper slices. I did use low fat mushroom soup, (as usual.)
Maybe it was the onion soup mix, maybe it was the cajun spice, or a combination of both, but I detected a slight aftertaste. Too much gravy, threw half of it away. My family ate it up, but I likely won't make it again.
Instead of Cajun seasoning, I used Greek seasoning. Otherwise, stuck with it and enjoyed it.
Absolutely loved it. It was very simple to make and it cane out perfect. I made one change however. Instead of soda I used a can of beer (miller light to be exact) and let me tell you...MY FAMILY LOVED IT. It gave it a high end feel and taste that we all enjoyed. My second change was I added 1/3 cup of flour to thicken the gravy. I highly recommend trying the beer instead of soda.
My family loves this!!!!
I was impressed, it was really good, even my kids liked it. I didnt put alot of the onion mix in, but it still came out really good!
I absolutely loved this recipe. the meat was moist, it was perfect.
Excellent, I didn't have 2 cans of Cream of Mushroom soup, used one jar of Heinz Home Style Gravy and 1 can of cream soup served over Egg noddles. Very good and well make again.
This as a very tender recipe for cube steaks. I cooked mine on the stovetop for two hours, turning the steaks after one hour. I served them with mashed potatoes and my family really liked them. The only complaint was that they were a bit too salty. I think I would cut back on the dry soup and cream of mushroom soup. Probably by half. I will be making this again.
Made this last night and was super good! My 1 year old loved it. Definitely a keeper!
This was amazing! I admit the soda threw me, but what an awesome gravy this made!! My husband ate FOUR steaks! I used adobe seasoning instead of cajun but it was a little too salty, will definitely use low sodium soups next time....otherwise delicious!! SOOO easy to prepare and I just threw it in the oven! A keeper for sure!
I tried this recipe exactly as written except added some fresh mushrooms. (mushroom lover house!)It was very easy and tasty. I used generic lemon/lime soda and I think mine came out slightly too sweet. May not happen with brand name. Next time I may just cut down on the amount of soda a little. I had a house full of people (kids and grown ups) and everyone loved it. Even got asked for the recipe by the parents for their normally finiky eaters.
very good! I used low sodium soup as suggested by others. I didnt have any cajun seasoning so I used Cayean pepper (about 1/2 as much) They were very spicy (will prob just use a pinch of red pepper next time) but my boyfriend and i cleaned our plates!
Great recipe
I only had ranch mix dressing instead of dry onion dressing mix. I also did not have a lemon-lime beverage, so instead I dripped 1/4 tsp. lemon juice on each steak. It tasted great! My 15 y.o. son likes it.
Made a few changes but would serve it again.
The family loved it and it couldn't be easier to make. This one is a keeper!
It needed more spices. But it was ok.
Hubby liked it. Used tenderized round steak rather than cube steak and left it in the oven 2 hours. We did not notice a sweet taste, using Diet Seven Up.
very tender, easy to make. I did drop mine in flour & I used 1 can of cream of mushroom & 8oz of soda. I coved it in the oven for an 1hr & it was done. Maked 5 cube steaks. Will make again. Family loved it!Thanks!
My family loves this! However, you do need to add about 2 tsp of salt to offset the sweet soda. Also, to make it not as thin, you could cut the soda to 8 ounces instead of 12. It was very yummy though!!
My whole life I’ve breaded and fried cube steak. This is a great alternative. Made it exactly as recipe stated and it turned out very good with lots of yummy gravy left for our mashed potatoes.
