This is the sure gel recipe and it is AWESOME! I made it exactly like you said. (I pulsed the strawberry's in my food processor, because my hubby doesn't like chunks) It turned out wonderful & it was soooo easy. I will save this recipe & make it again & again!
deliscious. i just happened to use fresh picked blackberries since i have a million in my back yard and need to use them. can't let the birds have every one!
I made this and went with just a little change. By reading some of the reviews, I saw a few saying too much water. So, instead of using water, I used juice from the mashed strawberries. It didnt add any extra liquid, and it was more strawberry flavor. It set, and it is so good. My only problem is the amount of sugar! I didnt realize there was a sugar free pectin available. Next batch will for sure be the sugar free version.
I made this just as posted. I was doubtful at the amount of sugar in this and I wish I would have cut it back to at least three cups. It's insanely sweet and gritty.
Delicious topped on sharp cheddar cheese - YUM!!!
This was a super easy jam recipe. I followed the directions except making the jam with splenda and ended up using the freezer jam pectin. For a first time jam maker it was hard to figure out which particular type of pectin to use and I wish the recipe had been more specific. The freezer type worked out okay though.
If I had known making strawberry jam was this easy, I would have made it years ago! THUMBS UP
My Jam turned out thick and gooey. But, the taste is amazing.. Might have been the 4 cups of sugar :)
This used to come with SureJell but my boxes this year didn't have it. Glad to find this. Yes, it is a ridiculous amount of sugar. You can purchase the low sugar SureJell (pink box currently) if you want less but you should use as instructed with regular pectin for it to set.
This was my first time making jam, so I was a bit nervous about how it would turn out. However, it turned out great! Absolutely delcious. It is sweet, but I don't find it to be overly sweet. I followed the recipe exactly and was very pleased with the results. Reading a bunch of the reviews before trying it helped a lot too! Thanks!
YUM!! my kids loved the jam and it was so easy to make.
So easy and yummy! Made it just like the recipe.
Delicious flavor. I used just picked berries. I followed the recipe exactly but it turned out too runny. I will use it to top ice cream or angel food cake. Maybe it was more runny due to the fact the berries were so fresh and juicy?
It turned out perfect. Yes I will make it again. I'm going to try blueberry and blackberry.
Really good and easy. Initially I tasted it once the pectin was added and thought it was too sweet, but once it's setup over 24 hours the sweetness settled down, melded with the strawberries and made a real good strawberry jam. Be sure to measure all ingredients exactly, and be sure to full boil the pectin for the full minute, whisk it well the entire time. It setup perfectly and has a great jel, nice and firm. Since I made a double batch, once I poured it into pints, I then took a few pints aside and added a few SMALL dashes (and I mean SMALL) of Ghost Pepper powder (Sonoran Spice Company on Amazon, it's outstanding!) and mixed it in. It is SOOO GOOOOD!! Just enough to add a nice little burn to it, try it it's amazing! The sweet strawberry and heat of the ghost pepper compliment each other beautifully. Great recipe, super easy. Thanks again!
It's ok ably not the fault of the poster, but mine turned out terrible! I tried it with Monkfruit 0cal sugar and sugar-free SureGell... it was horrible! Don't ever try it that way...
I have made this multiple times following the recipe exactly and each time it is super runny. This isn't jam consistency but more like syrup. I am sad because I have 36 jars now of something I cannot spread on bread.
I love the recipe and easy to make. I used the Sure Jell for less sugar and cut the sugar in half.
super easy to make…even for a “non-cook” like me. I did add a few more berries….had about 2 1/4 cups of strawberries ( 2 quarts halved and crushed).
Made it in 2021 to rave reviews. Trying to replicate my success in 2022.
Sure was easy Ann Miller
Too sweet for preserves, but great to use as an ice cream topping.
My mom used to make this jam and so it reminds me of my childhood. It's delicious!!
I'm going to try this but I want to know how much it makes do I need to double the recipe
I've made this with peaches but this is my first time with strawberries. Came out delicious!
I may not be being fair and reviewing this too early, but I just made it and it is sitting the 24 hrs in the jars to cool. The taste is good (although, I have to agree w/ the reviewers who said it's too sweet...next time I'll try the other pectin for reduced or no sugar jams), but I am not sure that it's going to thicken. Right now, it's VERY soupy, not even close to being jam-like. Perhaps the 24 hours is going to help, if it does, I'll update my review, but as for now, only 2 stars.
I used only 2 cups of sugar. 4 cups scared me a little!
Easy, tastes great and was a huge hit! I give it 4 stars because not all of the sugar dissolved making it a bit gritty. On a personal note, I actually prefer my jams a bit tart so this was a bit sweet for my taste however the flavor made up for it 10/10. Over all, great recipe!
Awesome
QUESTION: How are you determining portion size & yield? Recipe indicates 80 servings.... OF WHAT SIZE?? Some reviewers got 4-12oz jars of jam. Is that the usual yield? Many thanks! It is delicious, BTW!
No changes and it is delish! I haven't actually put it on toast. I get as far as grabbing a spoon and so far that is working out pretty well! I plan to make more since strawberries are really cheap right now at the farmers market. I only wish I had a larger freezer. I used the same recipe with peaches and it is equally good!
This was super easy to make, but holy sugar! I read the reviews and reduced the sugar to 3 cups and found this to still be very sweet. The o e thing I would change making it next time is I would mash up only half the fruit and chop up the rest of the berries. I like a chunky jam. I am going to try this with other fruit as well.
It turned out great . I only used 1/2 the amount of sugar 2cups instead of 4 cups ..
Perfect recipe. Easy to make. And turned out delicious!!!
Cut the sugar in half and this jam is great. I make freezer jam every year and use instant pectin, but this year I couldn't find it at the store so I looked up how to make it with regular pectin. The recipes either called for way too much sugar - like this one - or cooking the strawberries, which I don't want to do. I did what another reviewer suggested and strained some of the liquid off of the strawberries after mashing. Then I measured out 1 3/4 oz of Ball pectin from the big jar by weight to be sure. Initially I added 3 cups of sugar to 2 cups of strawberries, and my kids tasted it and even they said "way too sweet". So I then adjusted the strawberry to sugar ratio to 1:1. It set better than my freezer jam ever has before - I will now use this method every year.
This turned out really good. I would have given it 5 stars except I halved the sugar and it still turned out plenty sweet enough.
A trifecta of strawberry goodness, fast easy and good!! YUM!
My mother made this when I was a kid. She used certo light, which made it less sweet, & more fruity. BUT I'm wondering if you can use other fruits with the same instructions... Haven't tried it myself yet, & wondering if I can use rhubarb together with the strawberries, or by itself?
I made this and my jam had a lot of sugar crystals in it. Not sure how what to do with it. Followed the certo recipe as stated. I took out my bottle of freezer jam out and noticed that most of the sugar went to the bottom of the bottle.
This turns out good every time. I add a little vanilla extract and my whole family loves it.
Excellent and so easy
I absolutely love this freezer jam, it comes out sweet tasting and perfect amount of fruit pieces. Got to love jam what better way to make it quick and easy.
Really good! Just picked flavor this way. It doesnt seem to set up quite as firm for me as the cooked kind though.
Do you need an idea for a gift, especially Christmas, for teachers, neighbors, or friends? I've made this for years for teacher gifts when my children were in school. It's relatively inexpensive and truly appreaciated (words from a former teacher like me). You can even buy 1/2 pint jars at the grocery store to make it go farther.
This was way easier than I thought it would be. I have been looking for a recipe as I have very fond memories of my grandmother’s frozen jam, I am hoping that this comes close. If it does I have a few cousins that will be excited. Right now we are in the waiting to put in the freezer part of this recipe so I can only comment on how it tasted before going into the freezer. SO far so good. I did only use 3 cups of sugar based on the reviews that I was reading. I did notice that not all the sugar broke down so there is a little bit of a granular texture we will see how that is after the 24 hour set time. Hope I get to leave this at 5 starts.
I just couldn’t bring myself to add so much sugar...so I didn’t! It still tastes great and the consistency, though a little runny, is perfectly acceptable!
Super easy recipe, love the flavor. Used chunky strawberries. Turned out great!!
I love this freezer jam! Have made it repeatedly over the years. I usually use a blender to blend ingredients but used potato masher this time. Also only used 1.5 cups of sugar and it was perfect. Everyone love it as gifts!
Unfortunately, I feel this has way too much sugar. After I made it and tried it, I looked at the recipe on the pectin box. That one has a whole lot less sugar. 2 Cups of sugar to 1 Cup of strawberries - I should have gone with my first thoughts and lessened the sugar.
Very easy and yummy! I decreased the sugar by 3/4 cup, and it still jelled well.
delicious
I looked at the directions and saw the amount of sugar that this called for. I had my doubts but tried it anyway. Absolutely loved this recipe!!! The strawberries taste so fresh and the jam is not overly sweet as I expected. Will be making again. ??
Very easy and it tastes great!
This was absolutely delicious! Only one jar made it into the freezer since my grown children took the rest with them because they liked it so much. This recipe is definitely a keeper and will be used quite often. I highly recommend trying this one.
Yes I’ve made this before !!! My mother always made it ! One thing I would like to pass along , the freezer jelly after opened , if you don’t want it to become runny , you must put it back in the freezer
I make tons of this at a time and put it in the freezer. We all love it! We also eat it on biscuits(?), waffles, and pancakes.
Easy ... and SO good!
It makes 48 oz. Very yummy and easy :)
Made it - it's exactly like my mom used to make
Easy peasey! Definitely will be making again!
Too much sugar for me but kids love it on PBJ and ice cream. I will try low/no sugar recipes in the future.
Made this recipe exactly as instructed and it came out perfectly. The biggest tip is to make sure you let the sugar and strawberries sit together for 10 minutes before pouring in the pectin/water. I picked a LOT of strawberries this year and I was able to safely double this recipe with great results. Excellent recipe and very easy.
I've made this twice, both times double batches! And people have been offering to buy it! Sweet & Delicious!! SIDE NOTE - I did cut the sugar by 2 cups for a double batch (6 cups total), but that is just personal preference!
I made this then apparently forgot to review it. It's good, and very easy, but it is runny. maybe less water next time? I thought I screwed it up bc the pectin kinda jelled without mixing with the strawberries, but after some time in the fridge it was fine. It made a lot, and we aren't big jam eaters, so it will last awhile, but I'd be willing to make it again. Thanks for the recipe.
Standard freezer jame recipe, but this one calls for WAY too much sugar. I felt like I was committing a crime with just 2 cups of sugar, which I stuck with instead of the 4 cups this recipe asks for. Jam came out great, though I would recommend draining a bit of the strawberry liquid, which this recipe does not ask you to do! Still good, just needs corrections made!!
