Maple Corn Bread

  1. In a bowl, combine flour, cornmeal, baking powder and salt.
  2. In another bowl, beat egg; add milk, syrup and oil. Stir into dry ingredients just until moistened. Pour into a greased 9-in. square baking pan.
  3. Bake at 400 degrees for 20-22 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes; cut into squares. Serve warm.

I really thought I was going to dislike this. I buy my corn meal stone ground at The Dutchman's Hidden Valley in Hamilton, TX. This recipe calls for a very small amount of corn meal vs. flour. I...

Nothing special here. Not sweet. Not moist. Just cornbread. If you are looking for something solid with no frills, this will work.
