Spanish Sangria

This was a recipe I learned while living in Spain in the late 1970s. It's still one of my favorites.

Ingredients

  • 1 (750 milliliter) bottle Shiraz red wine

  • ½ cup white sugar

  • ½ cup vodka

  • ½ cup gin

  • ½ cup rum

  • ½ cup tequila

  • 1 medium orange, halved and sliced

  • 1 medium lemon, juiced

  • 1 liter ginger ale

Directions

  1. Mix wine with sugar in a bowl to dissolve. Add vodka, gin, rum, and tequila.

  2. Cut orange and lemon in half, then into slices. Stir into sangria. Refrigerate for 8 hours, or overnight.

  3. Add ginger ale. Serve over a lot of ice.

Cook's Note:

You may add other fruits, or subtract... at least one!
