2.13.22 There’s either an error in this recipe or I simply don’t understand it. Baking an apple for 10 minutes at 350ºF is not enough time to cook an apple. However, I did pull it out of the oven to check at 10 minutes, the apple was still raw, and the filling hadn’t even started to melt. If this not supposed to be cooked through (I baked for 30 minutes) and eaten as a raw apple, why even put it in the oven? IMO 3/4 cup brown sugar and 2 tablespoons cinnamon seemed excessive for 2 apples, so I did use a brown sugar blend to try to get the calories and carbs down and cut the amount of cinnamon (strong spice) in half. I carved out the first apple, filled it (really packed it in), and then cut the second one even larger, and I still had a lot of filling left over, enough for at least one more apple, maybe two. It would have been nice if the recipe submitter had suggested some apple types, but I used Granny Smith which was a good contrast to the super sweet filling. Apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon is a winning combination, but sorry, I just don’t understand how this is supposed to turn out. I’m giving this 3 stars because we ate it, it tasted OK, but I’ll be moving on, won’t make this one again.
