Coffee Barbecue Sauce

This keeps well in the refrigerator (up to 3 months) so you always have some red sauce to put on grilled chicken, beef, or pork for easy weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups ketchup

  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee

  • ¼ cup brown sugar

  • ¼ cup cider vinegar

  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper

Directions

  1. Combine ketchup, coffee, brown sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, oil, and cayenne in a medium nonreactive saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve sugar. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened, about 5 minutes.

  2. Remove from the heat and cool. Transfer to a tightly covered container and store in the refrigerator.

Cook's Note:

Sauce will set up more in the refrigerator.
