Ingredient Checklist

Directions

Instructions Checklist
  • Grease an 8x8x2-inch pan with cooking spray.

  • Melt butter in a large pot over medium heat. Add sweetened condensed milk. Stir with a rubber spatula until butter and milk are uniformly combined and small bubbles are forming in the center of the mixture, about 2 minutes. (When you first begin stirring they will look separated.) Add the bag of marshmallows and stir until melted and smooth. Add vanilla extract and salt and stir again. Remove from heat.

  • Stir rice cereal and remaining cup of marshmallows into the pot to combine. Transfer to the prepared pan and press down lightly with a sheet of plastic wrap; don't pack them down too hard or they will lose their inherently soft and gooey texture. Sprinkle with flaky sea salt.

  • Let set up on the counter for at least 1 hour. Cut into 16 squares.

These are the BEST rice krispies treats I have ever eaten in my life. I'm hard to please being an ex-chef, but these treats deliver on flavor like no other! I made 2 batches and passed them out at work - every single person who had one, asked for the recipe. They wanted to know what that "amazing" flavor was. I almost wanted to keep the secret to myself b/c they are such a show stopper, but I gave in and emailed everyone the recipe and the link. Jessie Sheehan - you have knocked my favorite childhood (and adulthood) treat out of the park! Truly a home run. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. Take care. Read More

So good!!! I’ve made this about 4 times, starting with the original, and tweaking as I go. To me, this recipe is a bit too gooey and sweet with the amounts of condensed milk and vanilla. I think they, and the salt, though are fantastic additions to a regular crispy treat! It adds a depth of flavor that is addictive and keeps the treats from getting stale/hard. It’s gourmet without fussy extras that get in the way of what makes a crispy treat wonderful. They are sweet, crunchy, and childhood cereal great!!! For my taste, I only use about 2tbls condensed milk and 1/2 tsp of vanilla. Read More

These are absolutely the best rice crispy treats I’ve ever had! The flavor is amazing. They are so soft and gooey and the best part - they stay that way! The traditional basic recipes always are dried out (?) and way too crispy by the second day. These were still just as good as fresh 24 hours later (which is as long as they ever last...haha). YUCK!! As I was making the recipe I wondered if the TABLESPOON of vanilla was correct. I am guessing now that it should have been 1 teaspoon. If I were to try this recipe again, I would not add the salt either. I made a double batch for Thanksgiving and threw over half of them in the trash. Read More
