Homemade Cheddar Cheese Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • 1 cup whole milk

  • 1 ¾ cups shredded sharp Cheddar cheese


  1. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Whisk in flour and salt until a paste forms. Slowly add milk; cook and stir until fully incorporated, about 2 minutes. Add cheese; cook and stir until cheese is melted, 1 to 2 minutes.
