Great basic recipe but I did feel it needed more flavor. I ended up adding some salt, butter, and herbs in the last hour. I like my green beans crunchy so I purposely left them out the first hour but I would say the cook time is spot on for most people. Read More

Fantastic!!! The only "modification" I made was that I couldn't figure out what I was going to do with the rest of the 12 oz of Salt Pork after I cut off the two 1" cubes so I just followed the recipe's advise ("... or more to taste.") and just cut up the rest and added it to the slow cooker. Ended up with a great tasting meal. Read More

I make this all the time only I saute chopped bacon then add chicken broth, new pototoes, black pepper and sometimes largely chopped sweet onion. When potatoes are almost done, add steamed green beans to pot. Let simmer for 20 more minutes. The chicken broth really makes a difference. Read More

This was a basic recipe and the green beans and potatoes were tender, but not too soft. However, this wasn't as flavorful for the time it took to cook. The salt pork is ok, however, pretty plain. If you have a hectic day ahead...sure. However, I would rather steam and flavor on the stovetop for a more, flavorful dish. Read More

This is pretty plain as written. Plain, but tasty, with a little pork flavor and nothing else masking the taste of the green beans and potatoes. Flavor enhancers for me include garlic, black pepper and dried thyme. I used pieces of smoked jowl that I had in the freezer instead of salt pork. Thick sliced bacon would probably work well too. I cooked mine on slow cook low in my Ninja 4-in-1 multicooker for 4 hours. Six hours or more on low would have been too long in my cooker. Served with baked steak and cornbread. Read More
