  1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Butter and flour one 8-inch cake pan.
  2. Cream butter and sugar together in a bowl until fluffy. Add vanilla extract. Beat in eggs 1 at a time.
  3. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together into a bowl 3 times. Add flour mixture to egg mixture in 3 additions, alternating with milk and ending with flour mixture. Pour batter into the prepared cake pan.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown, 45 to 60 minutes.
