Sunbutter® Cookies (Top 8 Allergen-Free)

My son has multiple food allergies, so making healthier snacks that are both good and safe is always tricky. I hope you will love this sweet, chewy cookie. It is nutritious, kid tested, and has the wonderful consistency of a no-bake cookie. These cookies are gluten free, nut free, dairy free, and egg free.

2 dozen cookies

  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil, or as needed

  • 1 cup sunflower seed spread (such as SunButter®)

  • ¾ cup white sugar

  • cup flaxseed meal

  • 6 tablespoons applesauce, or as needed

  • ½ cup dairy-free chocolate chips

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease a cookie sheet.

  2. Combine sunflower seed butter, sugar, and flax meal in a bowl to form a crumbly mixture. Stir in applesauce, 1 tablespoon at a time, until dough is soft and moist but stiff enough to hold some shape. Fold in chocolate chips. Drop spoonfuls of the dough onto the cookie sheet.

  3. Bake in the preheated oven until cookies are golden brown on the bottoms, 10 to 12 minutes. Allow to cool in the pan for 2 minutes before removing to a cooling rack.
