Basil Cucumber Smash


The key to this cucumber basil smash is crushed ice and plenty of it. It's what, in pre-freezer days, made this cocktail style seem so very indulgent.

  • 3 slices cucumber, plus more for garnish

  • 3 basil leaves, plus more for garnish

  • 1 ½ teaspoons superfine sugar

  • 1 ½ fluid ounces vodka

  • 1 cup crushed ice


  1. In a Collins glass, muddle cucumber, basil, and sugar until sugar is dissolved. Add vodka and crushed ice. Stir until well chilled. Garnish with an additional cucumber slice and basil leaf.
