  • Rub chicken pieces with lemon. Heat olive oil in a large Dutch oven or lidded skillet. Add onion and garlic; cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add chicken pieces and cook until browned on all sides, 5 to 10 minutes.

  • Pour wine over the chicken. Add tomatoes with their juice, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, sugar, salt, and pepper; bring to a boil. Cover the Dutch oven and simmer until chicken is tender, 45 minutes to 1 hour.
