This recipe comes from my mom's homemade nuts-and-bolts recipe. Not being a huge fan of the mixed ingredients, I chose my favorite one and then spiced it up. Careful, it's addictive! Store in a large paper towel-lined container.

  • Preheat oven to 250 degrees F (120 degrees C).

  • Pour cereal into a large roasting pan.

  • Melt butter in a microwave-safe bowl, about 90 seconds. Mix in Worcestershire sauce, hot pepper sauce, Cajun seasoning, onion powder, seasoned salt, and garlic powder. Pour mixture over cereal, coating evenly.

  • Bake in the preheated oven, tossing every 15 minutes, until crispy, about 1 hour. Let cool.

Cook's Notes:

Life(R) cereal or Chex(R) can be substituted for the Crispix(R).

Original recipe contains 3 cups Crispix(R), 3 cups Cheerios(R), 1 cup pretzel sticks, 1 cup cheese stick crackers, and 1 cup peanuts.

I loved the flavor in this. I made exactly as written but I do feel the butter needed doubled to coat the entire 12 ounces of cereal. The flavor was spot on though. I ended up needing an additional 30 minutes in the oven as written so plan ahead. The flavor is great and this is worth the time to make.
