  • Sift flour onto a flat work surface. Make a well in the center. Add sugar and salt. Gradually mix in shortening and water with a fork until dough comes together. Knead until smooth, about 10 minutes.

If you are making savory empanadas, use only 1 tablespoon sugar and increase salt to 1 tablespoon.

I don't know if I did it right but mines came out kind of like a pie crust. When I ate an empanada before I don't remember it tasting like a pie crust (sorry in advance some humans can be vicious for no legit reason). It was still good though. Read More
