  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, applesauce, sugar and honey until smooth. Mix in the lemon zest. Combine the cream of wheat, baking powder and cardamom; stir into the creamed mixture. Blend in the yogurt and egg whites. Try not to overmix, or the bars will fall. Finally, mix in the coconut and sliced almonds if you like them. Spread the mixture evenly into the prepared pan.
  3. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes in the preheated oven, until the edges are brown but not the top. Cool and cut into bars.

My family and I love this recipe. I used cinnamon instead of the cardamom, some lemon juice instead of the lemon zest, used 2 eggs instead of 4 egg whites and doubled the coconut. It was very ...

Not sure why I didn't like these, maybe it was texture that put me off.

The flavor wasn't too bad, it was interesting with the lemon and cardamom but it was just way way too dry.

This tasted fine but it came out pretty dry. Definitely eat it with a glass of milk nearby. I'm willing to try this again though, maybe with added milk to the batter.

Made with brown rice farina for a gf recipe. These have a lightly sweet flavor with a bit of a crunch, probably due to the brown rice farina I used. My kids love them and they also satisfied my ...

I will make this again, and again. The basic bars can be flavored many ways. I stuck to the lemon zest, but next time I think I'll add cranberries or raisins.I only used the 1/3 cup of honey to ...
