Microwave Brownie Cake

Rated as 3.89 out of 5 Stars

"Created this in a dorm room when all the mug cake recipes I found were terrible. It's super easy to make and to memorize, and if you only use one mug, a tablespoon measure, and a spoon, you have a lot fewer dishes to do. Easy to make in under 5 minutes with minimal mess, so enjoy! And never feel bad about eating the entire thing yourself."

  • Prep

  • Cook

  • Ready In

  1. Microwave chocolate chips and butter in a microwave-safe mug until melted, about 20 seconds. Add brown sugar, white sugar, salt, baking soda, and vanilla extract; mix together until combined. Stir in egg yolk. Add flour; mix until batter is blended and smooth.
  2. Cook in the microwave until crust forms but center is still fudgy, about 35 seconds. Add 5 to 10 seconds for a drier consistency.

Footnotes

  • Cook's Note:
  • This recipe is enough for one 1/2 cup serving of cake (roughly) or two 1/4 cup mug cakes, doled into separate mugs after mixing.
  • Do not use more baking soda than recommended. The cake will rise too much.
  • You will need to soak whatever mug you use - this stuff dries on pretty tough. Setting it out overnight with water in the mug typically gets it off though.
  • Tip
  • Parchment can be used for easier cleanup/removal from the pan.

This is the 3rd coffee mug brownie I've made and I find one thing in common with all of them. Since the sugar doesn't have time to dissolve, they all taste very sandy and gritty -- not something...

it tastes good... i add milk n coco powder... thanks

Great! Perfect for a quick craving. Added a little almond milk, less brown sugar, and used Nutella instead of chocolate chips. Half the amount of brown sugar called for would be plenty!

great. I only put 1 tablespoon of brown sugar.

This is SOOOOO good but here is a hint use self riding flour and yo will not have to use salt or baking soda because it is already in it. XD

This is a great recipe!

Really good! I used 1 tablespoon of brown sugar, but I'm gonna try milk in it next time. It's SUPER moist!

I added about 2-3 tablespoons of milk to recipe.
