  1. Heal oil in a deep skillet over medium heat; cook and stir onion, green bell pepper, and garlic until until tender, about 10 minutes. Add water, ketchup, brown mustard, soy sauce, barbeque sauce, maple syrup, sriracha hot sauce, thyme, and cayenne pepper to onion mixture; bring to a boil.
  2. Reduce heat to medium and simmer until sauce is thickened, about 5 minutes. Stir lentils into sauce and simmer until lentils are warmed, about 5 minutes.

  • Feel free to make a roux with some flour if it doesn't thicken to your liking.

Ground beef step aside. This sauce has a variety of flavors. I did skip the cayenne pepper since I was making it for a child as well. The sriracha sauce adds a spicy twist alone. Next time I wo...

Delicious! Will make again. I made a lot of changes to suit my family. Did not use cayenne, green pepper, thyme or bbq sauce. Used 2 tsp siracha and 2 TBSP brown sugar.

A fun alternative to traditional Sloppy Joes. It has a good amount of kick to it in a balanced spicy-sweet sauce. I'll repeat this one, and not just for the vegans of the family!
