Chef John's Bay Scallop Chowder

Stuck to the recipe, except for the chili pepper, didn't have it on hand. So I just added more cayenne pepper for the heat. I love bacon and garlic so of course I had to add a little extra of each. My daughter gave it a 5, but I say a 4. Let me explain. I felt that the scollops didn't pick up the flavors enough so I had to cook much longer, luckily they didn't get overcooked. At the end I had to add more seasoning than called for, but in the end it did taste good!
