  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Beat milk, shortening, egg, and vanilla extract together in a bowl until smooth. Stir 1 1/2 cups flour, 1/2 cup sugar, baking powder, and salt into milk mixture until dough comes together. Spread dough out into the bottom of a rimmed baking sheet.
  3. Spread apples over the dough on the baking sheet.
  4. Stir 1 cup sugar, melted butter, 1/4 cup flour, and cinnamon together in a bowl until topping is combined. Sprinkle topping over apples.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven until apples are tender and topping is golden, about 40 minutes.

Yes, it was easy but my cake turned out really dry. I should've watched it really closely since the batter was so thin.

Delicious. Followed instructions, using gala apples. Cake was delicious but the crumble top wasn’t so crumbly, albeit delicious! Would make again.

This was absolutely yummy. I also put some cloves in the apple just because I love cloves

After reading the reviews here I decided to make an icing sugar glaze. I used a rum flavoring instead of vanilla. This counter acted the dry crust perfectly as mentioned. Kept it refrigerated...

Tasted very good but I agree with the other reviews that it is a little dry. Delicious though, tempted to drizzle some powdered sugar icing on top.
