  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Saute onion, tomato, basil, and garlic in hot oil until the onion begins to soften, about 5 minutes.
  2. Break ground turkey into small pieces and add to pot; season with Italian seasoning and oregano. Cook and stir mixture until turkey is completely browned, 7 to 10 minutes.
  3. Stir tomato sauce into the turkey mixture; bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, and simmer until the sauce has thickened slightly, 20 to 25 minutes.
  4. Stir tomato paste into the turkey mixture until evenly colored; season with salt and pepper. Cook until the liquid is reheated, 1 to 2 minutes more.

Footnotes

  • Cook's Note:
  • Add tomato paste to thicken the sauce. Less if you like it thinner, more if you like it thicker.

Great sauce! I did not have fresh Basil though. I added some more Italian seasoning and a half t. of crushed red pepper

Wonderful!!

Honestly, one of the best tomato sauces I've ever made.

I, too, misread the amount of tomato paste and used the entire 6oz can, so I just added more broth to make it a little less thick. I also added a tad of butter (borrowed from another recipe) an...

Finally, my family enjoys spaghetti! No more Ragu or Presto! I made it like the original, but also added diced tomatoes. This sauce is a hearty one & it received 4 rare rave reviews in our house...

I made it for my 2,5yr old and seems she prefers beef bolognese but it was a nice change. I added a pinch of cayenne pepper for my husband as he likes everything spicy.

I and my family love this recipe.
