An ad on TV sparked the idea for this recipe, and its become a family favorite. I usually serve with fettuccini and Italian bread. It makes a very filling and delicious meal. It also is elegant enough to serve for company.

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

  • Combine 1 1/2 cup Italian cheese blend, garlic, basil, and oregano in a bowl. Combine Parmesan cheese and bread crumbs in a separate bowl.

  • Cut one side of each chicken breast through the middle horizontally to within one-half inch of the other side. Open the two sides and spread them out like an open book. Lightly pound chicken to flatten. Fill each chicken breast with Italian cheese blend mixture and close like a book over the filling. Coat the outside of each chicken breast with egg; press bread crumb mixture over egg layer to coat each chicken breast. Arrange chicken breasts in a 9x13-inch baking dish.

  • Bake in the preheated oven until chicken is no longer pink in the center and the juices run clear, about 45 minutes. An instant-read thermometer inserted into the center should read at least 165 degrees F (74 degrees C). Pour spaghetti sauce over cooked chicken; top with 1/4 cup Italian cheese blend. Bake until sauce is bubbling and cheese is melted, about 5 more minutes.

Put on your list to make for sure!!! I used chicken tenderloins. I dipped one side of the tenderloin in egg and placed egg side down on a layer of the bread crumb mixture which I had ready in a glass 13x9 pan. I pushed the tenderloins(strips) close together so there weren't any gaps. I then put the cheese mixture on top and covered with another layer of strips. I put egg on top and then pressed bread crumb mixture on top of that. Baked for 46 minutes and followed the rest of the instructions with sauce etc. Came out moist and heavenly. Put on a bed of angel hair. Read More

I hate to be a downer when reviewing any recipe especially a relatively new recipe but.... This was just so-so. There's nothing wrong with this it's just a tad too bland for my liking. My husband seemed to like this but I don't think he'll be disappointed if I never made this again. On a more positive note I must say that the equivalents of each component (i.e. breadcrumb & cheese mixtures) was SPOT on. So many times I'll end up with a TON of leftover breading or filling ingredients. It's always a shame that so much goes to waste but I didn't have that problem this time (hooray!). An Alfredo rice side dish and garlic bread rounded out our Italian-themed meal. Thanks for sharing your recipe CSLUSH. Even though I wasn't a fan I'm glad to have given this a try nonetheless!:-) Read More

Delicious. Used 3 cloves of crushed garlic in the cheese. Also used Hunts Tomato sauce with onion and herbs to add at the end. Also used Tex Mex 4 cheese blend as cheese. The combination of spicy garlic cheese and tomatoes was heaven. Amp it up with any of your favorite herbs and you will not forget this. Served with angel hair pasta stirred with 3 big cloves of crushed garlic and butter and french ed beans. Read More

This recipe is a excellent base for a variety of ways to make baked chicken. I've made the recipe exactly per directions and it came out excellent. I've also changed the type of cheese I stuff inside(cheddar cheese and jalapeños) and type of sauce (mango habanero salsa). The possibilities are endless with this recipe. Read More

I made this for a dinner party and it was fantastic - everyone loved it. I baked the chicken covered with foil then entire time except the last 5-10 minutes to allow the breading to brown slightly and the chicken turned out so juicy and tender. I decided not to pour the sauce over the chicken and served it on the side instead. I would definitely make this again! Read More

Nice easy meal paired with a side salad and bread and everyone was happy! This will be made again in our house might try throwing in a little spinach in the middle but it sure doesn't need any adjustments good just the way it is. This was great. I added a teaspoon of powdered garlic to the cheese mix and rubbed the fresh garlic on to the chicken before brushing with egg and covering with breadcrumb mix. my whole family loved this. I will definitely be making this again. Read More

Used Mozzarella and Provolone for the cheese mix and a couple toothpicks to hold the chicken together. Other than that I followed this as exactly as I follow anything without measuring. It was great! Even the neighbor kid who's about the pickiest kid I've ever seen loved it! Thanks for a "keeper" recipe! Read More
