Reviews for Toasted Garlic Bread
OUTSTANDING! I left out the oregano and added parmesan. I spread this on sub rolls and broiled on hi for 2 minutes, then I made the best meatball subs ever. I will never buy garlic bread from the store again!
Didn't even use any cheese, and it was just like store bought garlic bread! Will never buy from the store again!
Perfect recipe! The EVOO added flavor and made it easy to blend and spread. Made the butter mixture ahead of time to let the flavors meld and will do so from now on. Also tossed in a tsp of dried parsley for a little extra color/flavor.
Delicious! Made this in place of my usual toasted bread with garlic butter schmeared on it and was happy with the end result. Went perfectly with the baked ziti I made. Thank you.
Made this as an appetizer just as the recipe said, but used French baquettes. Everyone loved it! Super easy and tasty!
Great recipe just as written. Didn't change a thing. Thanks!
Very easy to make and good. I used french bread and had more than enough spread for half of the loaf, probably would have fit the entire loaf. I broiled for about 2 minutes, but could try baking next time so that it gets crisp all of the way through rather than soft in the middle.
Loved this recipe. I cut the loaf in half and followed the recipe but I did not have mozzarella cheese so I used Sargento 4 Cheese Mexican. Also sprinkled a small amount of parmesan cheese on the bread before adding the 4 Cheese Mexican. Will be making my own garlic bread from now on, no more store bought.
Thanks for this recipe! This is better than any other garlic bread I've tasted. My whole family loves it, in fact! I make this instead of store-bought every time, unless I'm *absolutely* crunched for time. It's totally worth it!
I like the bread to be soft with just a bit of a crunch, so I bake it at 300 degrees for 2-3 minutes, and then broil it for 2-3 minutes. I jump at the chance to make this with any soup or stew – it's so delicious!
Delicious garlic bread! We all really enjoyed this. Followed the recipe as written, but added more mozzarella to the top, just because we love extra cheese. I only broiled the toast 3 minutes before adding the cheese because it started to get too dark. I will use this recipe very often, thanks for sharing :)
Very good!!! I just halved the whole loaf long ways and and mixed everything (including the cheese, and even some parmesan as well) and slabbed it on there and baked it whole. DEEEEELICIOUS!!
So yummy! I found this as my tofu parmigiana was finishing baking... I only had some Cottage Bread (yep, a white loaf of bread from the grocery store...not what I normally buy, so I'm trying to use it up!) and it worked out WONDERFULLY! The flavors were wonderful and my dinner guest agreed. The bottom didn't toast quite as well as I would normally like, but I'm sure it's because the bread I used is just so soft. I am sure I will use this recipe again and again (with a better bread, of course!) So much better than frozens loaf many people use...
yum! we tried this recipe with our spaggetti and it was even better than i had thought! the mozzerela is a nice touch.
Tasty with or without cheese! I use Promise to make it healthier, and also add basil and parsley. Also add extra garlic. Sometimes we just spread this straight on wheat toast so the garlic is raw! But we really love garlic. Delicious!
This is an awesome recipe. I did follow "what a dish's" recommendation-put back together halves as a loaf, wrapped in foil, baked at 350 for 20 minutes, then open up, put cheese on, and bake until cheese bubbly. One other idea-try provel cheese slices on top vs. mozarella. This is provel, not provolone. Provel is awesome on garlic bread.
Wow! I added as much garlic as I could stand to mince and I forgot the mozzarella, and this was really really good.
Best garlic bread I have ever had! Beats resturants and it is so easy to make.
My go-to garlic bread recipe, for sure.
I used cibatta bread instead of italian and it was just as good. I was only able to butter about 6 slices of the bread but I was pretty generous with slathering each piece. I would definitely make this again. Also, even without the cheese it's a solide recipe.
This tasted very much like the boxed slices of garlic bread that you can buy in the frozen foods aisle at the grocery store. It smelled great while baking, too!
Excellent! I added a 1/2 tsp of paprika also, this is the only garlic bread recipe I make! Try using the French Bread recipe by Jenn Hall from this site for the bread. LOVE it!
The bread was good. I sliced loaf in half and then into sections. I tried some with the mozzarella on top and some with just the garlic spread. I preferred the spread only.
This is excellent. I left out the oregeno, but SO good! Be sure not to melt the butter...it keeps a thicker consistency that way.
Simple recipe for delicious cheesy garlic bread! I used an Italian seasoning blend instead of just oregano. My family loved it!
Incredibly good. Popped it in the microwave for about 8 seconds to slightly soften the mixture and make it really easy to spread. The cheese melted better for me in a 350 degree oven for a few extra minutes.
This was definitely delicious! Thanks for posting the recipe. :)
Good idea, but not very impressive overall. If I make this again, I will toast in the oven... NOT the broiler. I chopped up the few slices we didn't eat and used as croutons... liked it much better that way.
Delicious. I'll be replacing my old garlic bread recipe with this one.
delicious! A regular loaf of Italian bread sliced in 2 inch pieces 2 small ends cut off is perfect!
I used pita bread ( I opened it up and put the spread on the inside and layed it out on a baking sheet) and didn't have the cheese. It was perfect! For something thin like pita bread 5 minutes is way too long- try more like 2-3 minutes and it will be nice and crispy.
This was the fastest, easiest garlic bread I have ever made. It was delicious! Butter was out all afternoon so it was good and soft. Garlic cloves were a bit bigger than average, three were more like using four, but my group really like the strong side. I mixed after each addition with only a butter knife. Consistency of a very easy spread icing. Broiling times will depend on your broiler. I watched it like a hawk otherwise I would have burned it. I used a baking tray with sides as someone mentioned but I got lucky and did not have the oil seep out as someone mentioned earlier.
I proceeded with this recipe thinking, just another garlic bread. Who would have thought that these few simple ingredients could produce so much flavor? It was terrific.
This was fantastic! I will stop searching for the perfect garlic bread. We made this and put cheese on half the pieces. Everyone enjoyed both. I personally loved the slices covered in cheese.
Yummy! Will definitely make again. Be sure your bread is very fresh, I bought mine too far in advance and it was too chewy. The topping was delicious though.
This was excellent. I was very pleased with the way this turned out. Made one with cheese and one without. Both equally yummy!!! I too will not go back to "store" bought garlic bread again!!
This was the perfect recipe, easy and quick. Just keep a close eye on the bread. The family loved it!
Absolutely awesome garlic bread-everyone LOVED it!
This was really easy and REALLY good! I didn't change a thing.
Way better than a lot of restaurants! A little less garlic next time maybe though.
This was pretty good, but I prefer the Garlic Bread Fantastique recipe from this site. I think it has to do with the type of bread and cheese that is used on that one. But hubby prefers this one so we'll probably alternate between the two.
Followed recipe with two exceptions. 1) I used bread I made from a recipe on here called Amish White Bread. 2) I used more garlic then called for- probably double the amount- I LOVE garlic! Wonderful recipe. Thank you.
Very good and very easy! I've done this under the broiler (watch it closely) and I've done it in the oven. Good either way!
Really nice, if you're not a garlic fan then cut down on the amount of garlic or use smaller cloves. But went well with pasta. Yum
tasty and bachelor friendly
Excellent garlic bread. I did skip the cheese and it was still fantastic. Thanks!
This was so easy and so good! I used sourdough bread and basil instead of oregano.
So easy and SO good! I will make this over and over!
REALLY GOOD EASY Should always have butter frozen for a fast garlic bread when no time to make other breads.
Good - not the best ever. I am not sure if it needs the olive oil? But the oregano was nice. I feel like it is missing something.
This was delicious !! I used all the ingredients and broiled one horizontal half of Italian bread on low for about ten minutes then I added some shredded mozzarella and parsley flakes and broiled for another 2-3 minutes. It came out toasty and the butter and cheese gave it a nice yellow cheesy inside. Yummmm ! Wish I made more :)
Very very Yummy... and a great crunch to it too!!
I had half of a loaf of day old sour dough and quickly looked up a garlic bread recipe while our pasta was cooking. I am very impressed with this recipe and likely won't buy store bought frozen garlic bread again because this is too easy.
Very tasty bread indeed. Nice garlic flavor and I liked the taste the oregano gave this. I only used about a half cup cheese sprinkled lightly over. This made plenty of butter spread, I had some left over.
I really really liked this bread. I made it with beef stew. I loved the garlic flavor. I smashed garlic reall fine to blend in with softened butter. MMMMM i also baked at 375 for about 10 mins because I dont like broiling bread because it just gives a cruncy top, not bottom. But it was nice and soft inside. Loved it, thanks!
This came out great! I left out the cheese though, and put the garlic through one of those garlic presses, and baked it at 350 for about 10 minutes till it started to get nice and toasted and brown.this one's definately a keeper!
This recipe is so easy, and my family loves it!
Soooo Good! I cut the bread into 3/4 inch slices then assembled and baked just once. Try with homemade soup and a salad. Yummy.
As good as - if not better - than any I've ever tasted in any restaurant I've been in.
tastes great but the first time I just set the timer for 5 mins and it was so burnt the dog wouldn't eat it. 2 minutes is as long as it takes in my oven on broil.
I made this as it, but without the cheese...DEFINTELY A KEEPER!!!! Thanks for sharing!
I also cut the entire loaf into 2 halves like many other reviewers. Very good. I left out the salt for health reasons and didn't miss it.
Very good taste! I definetly enjoyed it. It disspeearred pretty quickly and I saved the rest for later :)
Wow! Skip the cheese and add more garlic and you have a winner!
The most delicious Garlic Bread I've ever tasted! So easy to make and so wonderfully delicious. My significant other and I attempted it with ease and needless to say, it was gone in 20 minutes! Restaurant quality for sure! Thanks for the recipe; will use it again!
This recipe is quite good but, as someone crazy about garlic, I found the garlic flavor to be slightly lacking when prepared as directed. I doubled the garlic and omitted the mozzerella cheese. Other than that, its quite easy to prepare and very tasty. I made it using Mama D's Italian bread, also from this site - the combination was delicious!
The softened butter really holds the ingredients together and blending with EVOO adds flavor. I used Parmesan instead of Mozzarella which made it a little dryer than it would otherwise have been. You can't have enough garlic or oregano in this recipe. :-)
This is my new go-to garlic bread! It's soooo good!
Very tasty as written, however, I like the way I prepare it better. To eliminate a somewhat soggy or soft bottom, I place plain slices of French bread (no butter mixture yet) under the broiler for about a minute - just long enough so top is no longer soft. I then turn the bread over and follow the recipe as stated. Sometimes I substitute Parmesan cheese and sprinkle parsley on top for color. Thanks for sharing your butter mixture recipe - excellent with or without the oregano.
Yum, delicious! I didn't have Italian bread so I used a baguette instead and baked at 350 for 10 minutes.
This was so good and easy too! Everyone loved it.
I didn't change anything, and my husband and son said they thought that was great!!!!
This garlic bread is a keeper. I didn't change a thing! This would be good with about any dish that calls for tomatoes; fresh or canned.
Very nice recipe. I used light margarine and colby jack cheese, and next time I might add a little dried parsley as well. Thanks!
Quick, easy, and impressively delicious! Thank you!
The recipe as posted makes a very tasty standard garlic bread. As other reviewers have stated, the quality of the bread one uses has a huge impact on the final product--though I have used the mixture on plain hot dog buns in a pinch and they still are tasty; just not exceptional. Definitely superior to any frozen or store-bought garlic bread I have ever tried and so easy it has become a staple in our kitchen. :)
Super yummy! Many people suggested adding more garlic. I think I overdid it- my husband about died! So be careful! I used the Pillsbury refrigerated French loaf. Turned out great!!
I make the same kind of garlic bread, but use only fresh virgin olive oil and no butter. I first tried this knowing I had a guest that was lactose intolerance but find I now, that I prefer it with only the olive oil. You just need to use a brush to spread the mixture instead of a knife. Also very yummy!
I love this recipe. It's so much cheaper than buying pre-made frozez garlic bread. I just used white bread!
I am so sorry I tried this recipe. I made it for a family bbq yesterday, I dreamt about it last night and woke up this morning wanting to eat it again. Simply outstanding. I used a french stick for the bread, melted the butter in a frying pan, added the rest of the ingredients to the same pan(except we didn't want oregano on it) and then I dipped one side of each slice of french bread in the butter mixture. Yummm, I am going to get fat on this one!
Excellent, my new favorite way to make garlic bread. Quick, easy and tastes great.
Definitely making again! Garlic + Italian seasoning + truffle cheese ( got mine from Trader Joe's) on ciabetta bread is ah-mazing!!! Mmmmmmmm These toasties are excellent!!!
This is really good .. but think I like my version a little better .. Instead of oregano and mozzarella .. I sprinkle with shredded parmesan and dill weed then broil until lightly browned
SO easy to make; I think we like it better than the frozen store-bought variety, and it's probably healthier and cheaper!
I had some leftover french bread so I looked on the site for a quick garlic toast recipe. This recipe is exactly what I was looking for: easy, fast, and tasty! I didn't use the cheese this time, but I will definitely try it in the future!
My family loved this!
This is a great recipe. I had no italian bread, so I substituted "hotdog" buns!! Yummy!!
This is the best garlic butter I have ever had if I could give this a higher rating I would.
Very good...easily as tasty as any Italian restaurant. 5 minutes was too long for the first stint...they burned around the edges even before I could add the cheese.
Excellent! Although I prefer it without the mozzarella cheese. I think next time I might try some parmesan cheese instead.
I use 6 tbs butter, and crush the garlic coarsely by smashing with the blade of a knife and then chopping it up. Adding the cheese really makes it even better! i will never use another garlic bread recipe!
This was great! I love this bread and I'll definetly be making it again and again.
wE DID NOT LIKE THIS AT ALL! HAVE HAD MUCH BETTER ONES.
Super easy and very very tasty.
Delicious toppping! I used garlic infused oil from another recipe and added 1/2 teaspoon crushed rosemary instead of oregano. Brushed it on sliced San Francisco Sourdough from this site. The mixture of olive oil & butter is wonderful. Bread is crunchy, garlicky and addictive!
