These pancakes are awesome! The hubster and I devoured almost the entire batch! :) To change things up a bit, try adding cinnamon, pumpkin spice, or vanilla. A must-try pancake recipe! *UPDATE: Last time I made them, we DID devour the whole batch. :) This is my pancake recipe of choice now, and I haven't touched my other ones since this discovery. We like to add cinnamon & vanilla to the mix as a standard now. These pancakes are so fluffy and perfect! It's unbelievable to me how they just stand right back up after being drenched with syrup and having a fork cut through the stack. They don't get soggy like other pancakes after butter and syrup and whatever else you want to put on them. It's amazing!
Good... but nothing special.... i guess i don't get the big hype I was a little disappointed - I was expecting phenomenal. I am a big fan of making everything from scratch and these were literally no different than from the box... I will probably make them again but will also keep searching for that extra special something. May try adding some cinnamon or nutmeg or something next time..... over all. just ... pancakes.
Better than Aunt Jemima's pancake mix. If you have the time for the prep work, these pancakes are fluffy and just right. I added fresh blueberries.
Simple and yummy! Thanks for the great recipe. We added chocolate chips :)
Best. Pancakes. EVER. This deserves 10 stars. Better than any restaurant I've ever been to. My mom, dad, sister, gramma, and mom's friends all raved about it! Make sure to at least triple the batch... these babies won't last.
These really were the fluffiest pancakes ever. My kids devoured them, I devoured them. Made exactly as stated and they were so fluffy. SO FLUFFY!
The best pancake recipe and I've tried several!!!
they were great!!! i just added a lil vanilla
These were perfect!! Loved every bite. Doubled the recipe and added just a pinch of cinnamon. Thank you soooooooooooooo much for this recipe :)
This is the recipe I've been looking for. My kids always compare my "healthy" pancakes to IHOPs and mine don't win! They loved these. The only change I made besides doubling like everyone else is I used a combination of melted Smart Balance and Olive oil. They came out great. Maybe next time I'll try a little whole wheat flour to make them a little healthier but I don't want to mess too much as they were so tasty the way they were.
Great! I used apple cider vinegar because that was all I had on hand and it was fine. I replaced a 1/4 cup of the flour with flax meal to boost the nutrition and added a teaspoon of vanilla for flavor. We loved them plain, I tossed some chocolate chips on top while cooking for my kids. Delicious! a definite keeper!
Tried this today and followed the directions to a T and it was delicious and easy.
When my husband took the first bite, a look of pleasant surprise came over his face and he said it tasted like restaurant pancakes! He asked me to mark this recipe so we can make it again. I confess to using a smaller amount of brown sugar instead of white, but either way it's a five-star recipe!
Easy basic pancake recipe! I had buttermilk on hand and used it instead of the milk and vinegar solution. This makes a thick batter and by using 1/4 cup, I had a yield of 8 fluffy pancakes. Once this is mixed, do not stir again, just make sure your griddle or pan is at the correct temperature (should sizzle when a drop of water is placed on surface). This could be enhanced by adding fruit (blueberries, apples, etc.) or chocolate chips to the batter.
I just got done fixing these and I must say "Delish"!!!!! I have tried many pancake recipes but none compare to this one. Very good and this will be my pancake mix from now on. Sorry Mrs. Butter-worth you have have got to go, we did have a few good years together and I will still use your syrup!!!!
Very good! Definitely double recipe or you won't have enough.
These didn't turn out as easily as I thought. I used balsamic vinegar instead of white and added a teaspoon of vanilla. The taste was fine, but as some other reviewers said, the dough becomes really bubbly and foamy like bread and it's impossible to pour. So I added a little more milk and stirred until it became liquidy. This meant that they weren't as "fluffy" as they could have been but I have no idea how else you can pour them into the pan. I wouldn't make them again.
I've tried almost every pancake recipe on this site and like this one best because of the final texture. Definitely add 1-2 Tbsp vanilla to the mix. I've made these using apple cider vinegar and white vinegar. You can use either without impacting the taste, just don't freak out by the smell. Using an iron griddle, you have to use lower heat because of how fluffy these are, otherwise the insides don't cook as well. I typically do add an extra splash of milk to the original recipe or sometimes more to make thin pancakes. Works great either way. These are super fluffy. I use my 1/8c measuring cup to spoon these out for perfect sizing. Use 1Tbsp for mini sized for the kids (or I make them into Mickey Mouse heads using the 1/8c for the head and 1Tbsp for ears). As far as taste goes, as my husband said, "they taste like pancakes".
I gave these only one star because mine had a funny taste and where not fluffy at all the batter was thin and not thick so I got thin pancakes will not make these again. I am going to stick with bisquick pancake mix or find a different recipe
Excellent. Best pancakes I have ever made. Thanks for submitting this recipe.
Excellent pancakes! Light, fluffy and tastey. I used a 1/4 cup measure and got exactly 8 pancakes which is enough around here to serve 2. This recipe is a keeper.
Fabulous! Love this recipe. I add a dash (1/2 tsp - 1 tsp) cinnamon for another layer of flavor. Toss it in with the dry ingredient mixture. Just the right amount and you can't tell exactly what it is you just know there's something extra and delicious hiding inside! Yum!!! Also to make sure they're PERFECTLY fluffy I use an old school secret - beat the egg whites (separately) and beat the butter/buttermilk mixture to create bubbles then fold the two together to create a fluffly liquid mix. Add dry ingredients to this mix and you're guaranteed a fluffy and delicious batch of pancakes! If the batter is too thick add a little milk a tsp at a time until desired consistency is achieved. Btw, there's NOTHING like cooking on a griddle!!! If you don't have one get one! From a BIGTIME pancake lover - Happy eating!!!
I recently saw a pancake recipe done by chef Tyler Florence on The Food Network that called for Ricotta cheese; went grocery shopping last night and forgot to buy the cheese. I still wanted to make pancakes for my husband this morning so I decided to use Kris' recipe. And I'm so glad I did! These are by hands down THE BEST pancake recipe I've ever tried! I added a little Cinnamon to mine and we were in heaven. They were so good, I didn't finish making my husband's lunch by the time he had to leave! But he left with a full stomach to start his day, so you lose a little but gain it back somewhere else. Thanks so much for posting it :D
Amazing! I'll never make a boxed mix again! UPDATE: I HIGHLY recommend sprinkling blueberries on them before you flip them in the pan. They are DELICIOUS!
Very good pancakes, we loved them. Thanks for posting kris!
These are great pancakes. I used whole wheat white flour and extra light olive oil and they were still fluffy.
Entire family really loves these - no need to buy a mix anymore!
Best Pancakes ever. This has been my bf's favorite breakfast.
fantastic recipe! easy, quick and they are really fluffy! my kids gobbled them up in no time at all...
OMG these were quite possibly the best pancakes I have ever had! I am always sort of meh about pancakes because there is always something wonky about them too thick, too big, too small, too doughy, too crispy, too dry and etc. These woo hoo shut the front door delicious - I am sold.
Excellent - way better than Bisquick. For a family of four - I doubled the recipe.
Best fool proof pancake recipe out there! I did what other reviewers recommended and did not overmix the batter. I left it lumpy and let it rest while my pan heated. Fluffy and delicious!
These are awesome! I can't imagine them turning out bad, I followed the recipe exactly except I added some vanilla extract. They're amazing.
Really good.. I added vanilla which gave it an extra better taste... mmmmmmmmmm
This was a pretty good recipe. I definitely had to thin out the batter with more milk, it was too thick. I had a problem with the inside not cooking through. Most of the small issues I had were due more to my stovetop and pans that dislike cooking spray, I think, so I'm still giving this four stars.
These pancakes were great. Like other reviewers I was skeptical of the "sour milk" but they turned out fantastic. I have been looking for the right pancake recipe for awhile and this is the one. I didn't make any changes or additions to the recipe. Thanks for a great breakfast!
Fabulous! Made these for the kids for breakfast...they went threw 4 batches of these...Unbelieveable! I made the 1st two batches I made as directed. But the 2nd two batches with Prepared Pantry Raspberry Tidbits...and was an awesome additon. mmmm mmmm! Yum!
I goggled fluffy pancakes and found this recipe and fell in love with it. After the wife and I had put it through our test kitchen it was time for the toughest of critics, my Granddaughters! Not only was it a huge success but in our family they are now known as "Grandpa's Special Pancakes". So not only did I get a GREAT recipe but also some sweet memories to go with it. Thank You so much! Grandpa
These were great! As easy as a box mix, but far tastier and fluffier. The only thing I did differently was to use cider vinegar instead of white, because that's all I had; it didn't seem to make a difference. My teenage son and nephew scarfed 'em down!
Wow! I made these yesterday morning and they went over so well! I love how thick and fluffy they become, meaning that I don't need to eat so many to get full (which is great for me!). I use almond milk to cook as I'm allergic to cow's milk and that didn't seem to be a problem when it came to 'souring' the milk. I know, for a fact, I'll never use the box mixes again!
This is a very good recipe. Everyone can make these and they will turn out great.
These are the best pancakes ever made, hands down! They are quite fluffy, moist, and very tasteful...if the recipe if followed exactly :) I've tried doing different things to make it healthier or substituted other things when I didn't have exact ingredients, but they really aren't as good. Don't worry about the sour milk, you can't taste it at all. Another review said not to mix the batter too much, and I think that's very true-it's what makes them "Fluffy Pancakes"!
Great tasting pancakes. Will make for now on. Delicious!
These were awesome! Doubled the recipe for my four kids. Added the vanilla. Will make again!
Love this! I haven't made pancakes in years and after using a buckwheat mix to make some for hubby I decided to branch out and try this one. Marvelous! And I don't have to have buttermilk, it makes it's own. Thanks Kris!
As most others said, these are TO DIE FOR!! I did have to make seconds, as this recipe did not feed me and my three little girls. It makes about six 4" pancakes.
Very yummy
How did I ever miss this recipe?! I've used a few pancake recipes off this site but these are amazing. So fluffy and no after taste from the baking soda. I susbtitued lemon juice for the white vinegar.
Unfortunately , for myself, this recipe did not live up to the hype of all the five star reviews. I followed the recipe exactly, only to end up with flavorless, goopy, non edible pancakes. I will be avoiding this recipe and finding another.
They are definitely fluffy, but they could use some extra flavor. I like playing around with my extracts and whatever fruit is on sale. I've been using this recipe for a while and will continue to do so.
There was something not right with these pancakes. They had a bad flavor and we couldn't finish them. I don't know if it was something to do with the sour milk or what. It was disappointing.
Great pancakes!! They were really fluffy! We loved them! We didn't have white vinegar so we used rice vinegar. We also added mini chocolate chips :)
Really good!!! came out fluffy and good!!! will make again!!
DELICIOUS! They have so much flavor. I love them. This is my new go-to pancake recipe. I added vanilla extract and cinnamon. Yum.
excellent...the best pancakes I have ever made. I did add a touch more milk, because they were VERY thick. And skipped the melted butter in the batter. These pancakes were gobbled up by my two boys with almost none left for me!
Fluffy and melt in your mouth! Followed directions exactly and was amazed. Will make again and again.
These are awesome. My son said "Mom, you need to make these more often." Yep, they're a keeper. Followed directions exactly. Thanks for the recipe!
These we awesome...the fact that I had everything in my kitchen already and they turned out AWESOME I will most definitely be keeping this recipe! My 4.5 year old son ate a whole huge pancake..I could barely finish mine!
Love this! I haven't made pancakes in years and after using a buckwheat mix to make some for hubby I decided to branch out and try this one. Marvelous! And I don't have to have buttermilk, it makes it's own. Thanks Kris!
OMG!! what a tall pancakes!! Best best best best ever!! it will be the only pancakes recipe for me ever!! I only use yellow vinegar and The pancakes were just a little acid, but, sooo tall, and fluffy and perfectly cooked inside as for the normal pancakes. This morning, I ate the whole quantity alone!! Thank youuuu :D Ah, remember to wait 10 minutes the milk to sour, and then when you combine all ingredients, wait another 10 minutes before cook pancakes.
These are BY FAR the absolute BEST pancakes I've ever had. I have read and heard about people who say they will never go back to boxed again and thought to myself "yeah ok". This is one of those times! If you're looking for a pancake recipe and are going through all the ratings and reviews of others, STOP!!!! You WILL NOT find a better recipe than this one!
I've been in search of a homemade pancake recipe for 2 years now and finally I found it! I've tried every version out there (so it seems) and it boggles my mind how just slight variations can make such a big difference. I didn't change anything in this recipe and it tastes better than box pancakes, but without all the hydrogenated oils that comes with the ease of "just adding water." I actually just threw about about 5 other pancake recipes, as this is the only one that I need!
I can't stress enough how much I love this recipe! These pancakes are even fluffier than buttermilk pancakes. I add a tsp. vanilla and 1/2 tsp almond extract and they are perfect. I've also subbed almond milk instead of regular milk and made them half whole wheat and it still worked great. This recipe makes six 4" pancakes. Thanks again for the recipe!
Very good and super easy!
While the pancakes were good (I love buttermilk-like pancakes), I found the batter a little thick to work with. I suggest keeping a little extra milk on hand.
These weren't bad, nice and fluffy. However, I followed the recipe and they seemed a bit sweet for my husband and I, sort of cake-like. Thank you for sharing, but my search for the perfect recipe for my personal taste continues...
Nice recipe, but the batter was a bit too thick and only ended up making 6 pancakes. The batter was so thick I had to force them into circle-like shapes with the back of the spatula. They didn't taste any different from a Bisquick pancake, but they had a unique texture. These are the first pancakes I've ever made!
These are top notch 50's diner buttermilk pancakes!! I took one bite and it seems like I warped back into time of Happy Days and Grease!! The only thing I did different was add 1 tsp. of vanilla extract to the batter. The pancakes came out fluffy and soft. The only minor problem I had was the batter was kinda thick so when I dropped the batter in the skillet;I had to use a fork and spread the batter out into an even circle. Besides that these are Swell! Now I know why it got over 3,000 reviews!!HEYYY!!
The perfect pancake, with nothing changed. They work well with half whole wheat and half all purpose too.
This is a fine pancake mix, but nothing exceptional. The flavor is a little lacking, and I found the batter a little too thick for me. Adding a teaspoon of vanilla and a couple of tablespoons of milk helps.
We LOVED these pancakes! My daughter told me that these are better than IHOP!
This recipe is terrific! I couldn't use regular milk and had my doubts when DH accidently, came home with 'vanilla' soy milk. I"m not crazy about soy milk (and wasn't sure how it would taste and ... how it would work with 2 Tablespoons vinegar. But, I needed to use non-dairy, for who I was making for. The flavor turned out really terrific. So nice, that now... I will make a point to use Vanilla Soy milk, instead. Also, I made 2 flavor additions. One being adding chopped pecans. The other adding fresh blueberries. YUM! BTW, I discovered that if you brown one side and just before turning (when you get the little bubbles)THEN add any 'additions', they turned out perfectly done. I have always had trouble getting blueberry , etc. pancakes to cook all the way through. But that worked beautifully every time for me. Thank you for a delcious pancake base recipe!
Had been using a different "fluffy pancake" recipe from this site for years...just found this one and I am never looking back! These were awesome! Light and fluffy...perfect! Only change I made was I used oil instead of melted butter...and that was only because I was lazy! I'm sure they would be even better with the butter...guess I will give it a go next time!
I forgot to put butter into mine and they still turned out wonderfully!! Next time, I'll try adding the butter too! My husband said, "It's your best pancakes yet!" Thanks for the great recipe :)
Subbed buttermilk for milk. Never need to look for another recipe again.
This was the best pancake recipe I've ever tried!!! I loved the way they tasted and how fluffy they were, my brother said "now this is what I'm talking about!"
My family loves this recipe. I don't used the melted butter it calls for because it is so good without it!!!
This is by far the most disgusting pancakes I have ever made. It was extremely vingary tasting and the batter was way too thick and I was barely able to make 4 decent sized pancakes.
Pancakes were fluffy and light. I followed the recipe and added blueberries. Thank you for sharing, these will definitely be my go to pancake recipe.
This is an awesome easy pancake recipe. I make it for my husband on the weekends and he loves it!!! Thank you for sharing. I follow the recipe exactly.
Great as is! Despite being wary of the high vinegar: milk ratio, they turned out great without any adjustments. I found them a tad bit bland so added vanilla but the base is wonderful! I am a picky pancaker and this is my go-to white flour pancake base now.
This lives up to its name. I use 1 cup white 1 cup whole wheat substitute oil for butter sub brown sugar for white I also add a total of 4 eggs to keep from getting hungry so early in the day.
I followed this recipe to a T. I did not do any modifications at all and they came out amazing!! My boyfriend said they are the best pancakes he's ever had. One thing about this recipe. It says these pancakes are 4 servings but I only got 4 pancakes out of it! So unless you are cooking for small children who can only consume one pancake, I would suggest doubling this for more people. Four pancakes were perfect for the two of us but a larger family will definitely need more!
So easy to make and tasted yummy!!
My grandkids love pancakes and I didn't have any mix in the cupboard so went to my go-to Allrecipes to make them for my grandkids this morning. As usual I wasn't disappointed. These were perfect. I made them as written and I wouldn't change a thing. Thank you! Will keep in my recipe box for sure.
Excellent. I did find the batter too thick and had to add more milk. Also added 1/4 cup ground flax.
These should be called sourdough pancakes, as they did not get fluffy at all. They tasted like sourdough pancakes, and no matter how much I cooked them, they tasted raw. They were thin, and even when the outside looked almost burned, the insides were raw. If you really like sourdough bread, they'll probably taste okay.
amazing
Excellent recipe. We just finished gobbling these up. We did make some changes. We added about 1/4c more milk to thin out the batter as we found it too thick. We also added 1 tsp vanilla, 1tsp nutmeg and 1 tsp cinnamon to the batter. Tasted just like grandmas's recipe.
Substituted almond milk and they still came out fluffy and tasting great.
they were good but not as fluffy as i thought they would be
Wow, these are really good! I tried this just because and this is as good if not better than our favorite recipe. I'm impressed, and that is saying a lot for a simple pancake. These babies are very tender and had quite a nice flavor. I doubled the melted butter. I had to add more milk though as my batter turned out very thick. I'm glad I tried a new recipe!
These are classic pancakes. Instead of milk and vinegar, I used buttermilk. The batter was easy to whip up and I made 4 perfect pancakes. They are fluffy, light and tasty. Very filling!
I have tried lots of different pancake recipes. These are by far the best. So nice and fluffy. I will not try another one! Thank you for a great recipe.
Awesome! I accidentally left out the butter, and never missed it. Made the mistake of adding more milk the first time I made them, because the batter seemed too thick. Never did it again. These are perfection!
Super yummy. Didn't turn out so fluffy when making "purple pancakes". Taste was still fabulous though.Try again without the huckleberries and I bet they'll be amazing.
Husband liked these. He said the last 3 were the best, so next time I will let the batter sit out for about 20 minutes total. Thanks for the recipe!
This recipe is a keeper. Double or triple it though. The kids couldn't get enough of these, they just kept coming back for more! Thanks for a great recipe.
Yay! My first time EVER trying real, homemade pancakes & they rocked! I'll never use a mix again!!
