Mincemeat Pie Filling

Many years ago, a friend gave me this recipe for mincemeat pie filling made with simple ingredients. It's so good that even those who don't care for mincemeat pie will like it. This recipe makes enough to fill two 9-inch pies.

  • 4 cups chopped apples

  • 1 ½ cups diced cooked beef

  • 1 ½ cups raisins

  • 1 ½ cups white sugar

  • 1 cup beef broth

  • 1 large orange - peeled, sectioned, and cut into bite-sized pieces

  • ½ cup sorghum

  • ¼ cup sweet pickle juice

  • ¼ cup pineapple juice

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  1. Mix apples, diced beef, raisins, sugar, beef broth, orange sections, sorghum, pickle juice, pineapple juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt together in a large bowl until well combined.

You can use molasses instead of sorghum, and apricot juice instead of pineapple juice.
