I read the reviews and made a couple of changes - and forgot about one! I added 3 Tbsp of sugar to the dough - too much, next time only 2 Tbsp. I added 1 ounce of cream cheese to the icing, used only 1 teaspoon of milk, and upped the vanilla to 1 teaspoon of good Mexican vanilla. Tasty! Much quicker than yeast rolls! The thing I forgot that I believe was previously mentioned, is that you can't spread the butter over the dough, then put "loose" cinnamon/sugar mix on it. When you pick up the individual slices after cutting, all the sugar mix falls out. So I'll be sure to mix the butter with the cinnamon and sugar, then place it on the dough. A great way to slice these (and any cinnamon roll!) is to use *unflavored* dental floss. Slide the floss under the roll, then cross the two sides above the roll and pull in opposite directions - wah lah - great, even slices without squashing the roll!
Read MoreI made these one saturday morning for my daughter when she wanted cinnamon rolls. Not wanting to spend forever making my usual yeast cinnamon rolls I decided to finally try this recipe. I am glad I did! Super easy and quick. I did add about 3 T. of sugar in with the flour and I also baked them at about 375 instead. They turned out great. Very tasty. Not like a cinnamon roll, but I didn't expect it to be. I will surely make these again. Thanks!

This recipe was very easy and my family loved them. Don't be deceived, the recipe title did say biscuits. This is a cinnamon biscuit recipe but it does taste similar to a cinnamon bun. I added a little sugar to the mix. I also added more butter and a tad bit more milk. Very light & fluffy.
My family has been making our version of these for years , so often that we can have a batch oven ready in 10 minutes. I have never had my cinnamon & sugar fall out after rolling . I suspect you either don't brush on enough butter before the sugar mix , or they aren't rolled tightly enough . Chilling the dough helps with slicing , & might help you keep the sugar on. I always use self rising flour (no extra baking powder here) , add extra milk if needed to get the consistency I want . And folks, like others say, THESE ARE BISCUITS ....they are not supposed to be like cinnamon rolls ! You can skip the filling & glaze & you will have biscuits! If you don't like biscuits , you will not like these, don't bother. All this has me wondering what else I might put in there ....butter & strawberry jam ?....diced ham & cheese?...cream cheese & jalapenos?
Great alternative to traditional cinnamon rolls made with yeast! This were light, fluffy, and moist with a delicate cinnamon sugar flavor. While these definitely are biscuits (so don't expect Pillsbury) they are great for when you don't have the time to spend hours waiting for yeast to rise. Definitely use butter and I added a couple of Tbsp. of sugar to the batter. I doubled the cinnamon sugar mixture and melted the butter into it making a paste of it then spread it onto the rolled out dough. This way the filling didn't come out. The dough was easy to cut and I got 8 huge rolls out of this. Chill first and it may be easier to cut. Watch these during baking, I baked mine for 20 minutes, but I should have taken them out sooner. The glaze was nice, but it needed a little something. I didn't have cream cheese on hand so I added a little more confectioners' sugar and a couple Tbsp. of sour cream to make it more of and icing vs. a glaze. I would definitely make these again due to the ease of prep and the outcome.

This recipe was quick, easy, and the results were wonderful. I whipped this together at midnight! Dough was SO easy to roll. And it wasn't overly dry or sticky. I gave this a trial run and made 6, added 2 tbsp of sugar to the dough since I was didn't want to risk a bland roll, then baked it in a muffin tin at 350 F for 20 mins. I think 450 is way too high- most cinnabon recipes only ask for a 350 F oven! Turned out perfect at that time. I omitted the margarine in the icing, and I believe 1 tsp of milk is enough.
This recipe was excellent. I followed the recipe exactly, and my whole family loved them. We will have this recipe many times.
This was wonderful. I used self-rising flour with 1 teaspoon of baking powder. I also used clear vanilla extract.
This was very good and very easy! I do think the batter needs a little more milk, and adding sugar to the dough wouldn't be a bad idea either! I used the cream cheese frosting II from this site! It was very good!
Great Cinnamon BISCUIT Recipe! This is not a ROLL so if you are under the impression that it should taste and have the texture of a yeast roll, you will be unhappy! I added about 2 Tablespoons of sugar to the flour mixture. After stirring all the dry ingredients together and adding the milk, the consistency of the dough was that of cottage cheese. I added about 1/4 cup of flour in order to knead the dough. I rolled into a rectangle on a lightly floured pastry cloth, brushed with butter and sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. Rolled into a log and placed a piece of dental floss under and brought both ends to the top, crossed over and made the cuts. Had a yield of 9 biscuits. I placed about two inches apart on a greased pan. I placed in the refrigerator for about 10 minutes then removed and baked for about 20 minutes at 425 degrees. Removed from oven and drizzled glaze. Delicious! Hardee's (which is a Southern fast food business here in North Carolina) you better watch out as this recipe has gottcha beat! Thanks for sharing your recipe!
I made these this morning for breakfast and they received rave reviews from my family! So delicious! For those looking for a quick cinnamon roll recipe, you will be very pleased so long as you realize that these ARE biscuits, not true cinnamon rolls. The texture is a little bit different than your average cinnamon roll, but the flavor of these is delicious. Don't follow the reviewers who say to bake these at 350 rather than 450. Biscuits, which these are, should baked at very high heat as a rule. I followed this recipe to the letter and it came out wonderfully! Thanks for sharing these!
I used my baking powder biscuit recipe because it's tried and true. Have always had trouble with glazing coming out too 'loose' . Don't know what I did wrong but the glaze as stated was just sweet white soup
I halved the recipe and used a combination of whole wheat and white flours. They were slightly dry but still very good. (Be careful about putting too much butter on the dough before rolling it up...too much butter runs out of the dough onto the baking sheet and causes the biscuits to burn.)
I was unsure on how to rate this. The reviews stated that the biscuit part of the recipe isn't that great and I have the perfect biscuit recipe. I used that recipe (Fluffy Biscuits here on AR) for the biscuit part, but then used this for the filling, the glaze and the technique. Prepared as such, they're WONDERFUL. My 5 year old ate 3 and was begging for more. These are GREAT and will be a breakfast staple. Definitely NOT a "cinnabon" type cinnamon roll, you're not going to get that w/o yeast, but I like this better for a weekday breakfast! I ate a whole one and don't feel like I need a nap. 5 stars using the Fluffy Biscuit recipe.
These are exactly what they promise--a biscuit with cinnamon and a sweet glaze. Similiar, but not exactly a cinnamon roll made in waaaay less time. I added 1/4 c of sugar to the dough and doubled the amount of filling. The filling is easier to spread if you soften the butter and then mix in the cinnamon and sugar, just don't melt it. I also reduced the oven temp to 400 for 22 minutes. My hubby was really impressed and as quick as these are to make, i will def hang on to this one!
This recipe was pretty good. It definitely tasted like a biscuit (and not like a cinammon roll). But it was a nice alternative.
Very good! I made a few alterations to the recipe. I added 2 tablespoons of sugar to the dry ingredients. I found that I had to add a couple more tablespoons of butter and milk to the dough. And instead of using white sugar for the filling, I used brown because it's what I normally use for cinnamon rolls. This biscuit recipe alone, without the filling, is fantastic!
A real keeper. I've made this several times and it always gets eaten quickly. Only change I make is to add a little extra butter to the filling.
This was a great recipe. Easy to make, most ingredients are simple and on hand. Best of all, it does not require a breadmaker if a person does not have one! The only reason why I did not give this five stars was because it should be in the oven a bit less than the time it states. I know it said 18-20 minutes or until it gets brown). Aside from that, these were very yummy. My family and I thank you! Some changes that I made: I used 6 tsp of butter rather than 4 to cut into the biscuits. I also added more cinnamon 2 tsp of cinnamon (we like lots of cinnamon). I added vanilla extract to the milk when mixing the wet and dry ingredients, I used 6 tbs of milk for the icing to stretch the icing (Did not have a cup of confectioners sugar.) In the icing I also added more cinnamon and vanilla. It came out awesome! I think I will add cream cheese to the icing next time.
hey you all i am 55 years old and my mom use to make these when i was a little girl, in first grade my teacher would trade me sugar cookie's for my sweet biscuit...loved seeing this recipe
I saw this as a Daily Recipe and just had to make them this morning. Very tasty and I love the texture. I did add about 1 T of sugar to the dough and I'm glad I did. I used 50% reduced fat margarine and it still turned out very good. I will make this many times, I'm sure!
Super easy to make and they were gone the night I baked them. Like others, I added 1/4 c. sugar to the dough which I thought was just right. Will definitely make again!
These were very tasty and easy to prepare, much easier than making cinnamon rolls from bread dough and they taste just as good!
These are a great alternative if you don't want to wait for yeast rolls. Very yummy!
Sooooo good and easy! I did use more cinnamon and sugar mixture than what was called for and more vanilla in glaze but have to say again these rolls were awesome! Thank you for a great find. I also turned oven temp to 350 for fear they were burn in my oven and it turned out they took the same amount of time.
My batter was a bit dry and needed a bit more milk, so I'd use 1 cup instead of 3/4 cup. Other than that, the recipe was perfect, quick and easy. Definitely a keeper.
I must have been bleary eyed last night when I made these, because I added the 1/4 cup of sugar to the dry ingredients! So they were plenty sweet, and my 4 and 8 year olds loved them. (I took others' advice and mixed the melted butter with the cinnamon and sugar before spreading it on and it worked well!) I compensated for my mistake by making half of the glaze, which was enough for us. Great breakfast treat!
Make these BISCUITS!!! Because they're great. Super fast and delicious alternative to regular time consuming cinnamon rolls/buns. Only thing I changed is took the advice of other reviewers and added 1/4th a cup (4TB) of sugar to the dough mixture (add with dry ingredients). Took away 1 star because I don't think they would've been as good without the extra sugar. Just like with any biscuit, make sure not to overwork the dough and try to leave/get your butter as cold as possible before cutting into the dry mix. Also the recipe says to roll to 1/2 inch thickness, that's way too thick. Try more like 1/4th of an inch. I only got 8 biscuits out of the recipe but I'm sure I could have gotten 12 if I made them smaller. These may not have yeast but they do definitely puff up so make sure to leave some breathing room while placing. I eyeballed the liquids for the glaze and it came out perfectly for me.
I made this within an hour, and ate half the pan. I used pre-mixed cinnamon sugar, and just sprinkled liberally. Withoutthe glaze, these would not be sweet enough, considering there's no sugar in the biscuit dough. Be Ye warned. Beyond that, it got Good reviews from those who ate the other half.
Excellent and super easy! I add an extra TBSP of butter into the middle, and then add some thinly sliced apples and some raisins. They taste just like the breakfast biscuits from Hardees.
"I Love These!" said my five year old, who thought good cinnamon buns only "pop" out of a can.
Really good and really easy. A nice alternative to yeast rolls. I took another reviewer's suggestion and added 2 T of sugar to the dough. I also melted the butter and mixed it with the cinnamon and sugar to make a paste instead of sprinkling them on. Didn't lose a single bit of it onto the cutting board. Used a pizza cutter to cut the rolls. I didn't put any butter in the glaze and it tasted fine. I also made these dairy free by substituting soy milk and dairy-free margarine, as my son is allergic. Whole family loved these.
These are beyond fantastic! I whip these up almost every Saturday morning!
Very yummy! I substituted whole wheat flour and they turned out great. I made them for my three year old still used the glaze and just cut it up for him to eat.
These were super easy. I added chopped walnuts to mine and they were an easy substitute for real cinnamon rolls. I will definately make them again.
My family LOVE this recipe! Sometimes instead of making it cinnamon biscuits we stuff it with cream cheese, bacon and chives...delicious!!!!
5 stars for simplicity and taste. I did add 2 tbsp of sugar to batter and also used 1 1/2 tbsp of butter to brush on the dough before putting on cinnamon and sugar. I added some Pampered Chef Sweet Cinnamon Sprinkle to the cinn/sugar mixture. Finally I baked at 425 degrees for 16 minutes. It was an easy way to have warm cinnamon rolls on a chilly weekend morning.
These are great when you want a quick cinnamon roll. Just don't overcook them...
they were awesome! the only prob was they were difficult to roll out. sticky sticky. otherwise, totally worth the trouble. loved them!
This is a quick and easy, allways pleasing recipe that I keep on hand. These can be covered and refrigerated before baking for night-before preparation! Don't make any changes. It's perfect just the way it is.
We liked these a lot. I thought the dough was just slightly dry, so I would probably add an extra tsp or two of milk next time. I did add about a tablespoon of sugar to the dough, and only used about half of the filling mixture -- 2 tablespoons of sugar and 1/2 tsp cinnamon. I also made a very thin, simple glaze with 1/2 cup powdered sugar, 1/2 tsp vanilla, and about 1-2 tsp cold water. The end result was a slightly sweet biscuit that wasn't too rich or heavy, which is just what I was looking for. It was not overly sweet or dripping with glaze. I baked mine at 450 for 18 minutes and they were perfect. To those who think that 450 is too hot for cinnamon rolls -- remember, this is a biscuit dough, not a yeast dough, so baking time and temperature will be different than your average cinnamon roll recipe. Baking biscuits at too low of a temperature (350) means you have to leave them in the oven longer, resulting in dry, crumbly biscuits.
This recipe was great!! I was looking for a recipe similar to Mrs. Winner's Super Cinnamon Swirl, which is more like a biscuit dough.. this was almost exactly the same! My whole family loved it. I followed the recipe exactly and will definitely make it again and again. Thank you!
I made these for a dinner breakfast craving, and they turned out great...Only thing I did different was added 1 TBSP butter and brushed the dough with the 2 TBSP butter and sprinkled with a couple of TBSP of cinnamon sugar mixure..They turned out great..Will def make these again...
I have made these twice and both times they were great! The second time added a quarter cup of chopped pecans to the filling, which i like because it gave it more texture and dimension.
I have been craving cinnamon rolls but too busy to make them lately so I made these last night and they are indeed a tasty substitute! The only change I made was the use brown sugar instead of white to make them taste more like a real cinnamon roll. I got 8 biscuits out of my batch. Cooked for exactly 18 minutes and they were perfect. I can see myself making these waaay too often! I might do a cream cheese glaze next time.
I have made these biscuits a few times, and I always enjoy them! They are easy and taste great! I also add sugar to the dough, and cream cheese to the glaze...personal preference! :) Thanks for sharing!! :)
Okay i just made these and the were not fluffy or sweet. they cooked way to fast because i put them in the oven a minute less and they came out burned:( they were yellow and bitter. i had to cover them in sugar to make them edible.
These were great! Very simple, and quick. I've never attempted cinammon rolls before, as most recipes seem a bit too complicated for my inexperienced brain to handle. But, these were super easy, and they tasted great. Will definately make these again. Thanks!
I loved this one! I added cream cheese to the glaze . They didn't last long at our house.
These were so easy to make and WONDERFUL! They were light and fluffy, and the glaze was great. My husband Loved them, I will be making them again soon!
Really good! I didnt have the right sugar for the glaze so i didnt make it and i used whole wheat flour and they are fantastic especially warm out of the oven-so soft. By the way since i didnt do the glaze i added two tbsps of sugar to the flour mix.
These were fantastic!! Very quick and easy to make. My family loves them! I've made 3 batches and only managed to get two biscuits lol. Thank You for the recipe Sue its a keeper.
Ten thumbs up from my family. Easy to make - I followed the recipe except that I sprinkled brown sugar in with the cinnamon. So quick and easy and it makes just enough for a treat.
I made exactly as instructed with no changes. The dough definitely needs sugar, and the icing leaves much to be desired. I will try again with some modifications because this was much easier than normal cinnamon rolls and would be a nice short-cut recipe to have at my disposal.
My family really liked these cinnamon biscuits, but they are more of a cinnamon roll. I did make a couple of changes by using 1 cup whole wheat flour and 1 cup all purpose flour. I added 3 tbsp. of splenda or sugar to the flour mixture. I also cut in 4-5 tbsp. of applesauce instead of butter which comes out great and I like to use half splenda and half sugar to make this a little healthier. They turned out wonderful. I will definitely make them again.
Great recipe! Loved that it took a short time and there was no need for yeast and letting the dough rise. Thanks for a delicious recipe, i've been looking for something like this for a while:)
Well I only used the measurements for guidance but it turned out wonderful. I hate "jelly roll-ing" dough. So I put my sugar and cinnamon into my dry mix.. I went a little heavy on both and I added about 2 tbl. of milk due to the additional dry mix. Then kneaded and rolled it and cut it into biscuits.. I brushed the tops with butter and used the icing like the recipe said.. The icing could have been halved though. It turned out wonderful!!
Delicious! So easy, too. The only change I made was to add cinnamon to the flour mixture, and extra to the sugar/cinnamon combo.
These glazed cinnamon biscuits rock! Who needs the irritatation of hiking to the store for yeast, when you have a recipe like this? I doubt I will go to the store anytime soon for cinnamon rolls.
Just what I was looking for! Next time I will turn the oven down to 400 degrees and decrease baking time a few minutes. They were a bit dry. Thickening the glaze with cream cheese is a good idea. I added raisins and walnuts to the glaze also. reminder: Roll it up tight and secure the edges after you cut each roll. Great recipe!
Awesome! I'm dough phobic ever since a bad experience with pie dough and this was sooooo easy to work with! I followed another reviewers advice and added sugar to the dough and I think I'll follow the original recipe next time b/c these were really sweet. I didn't use the glaze recipe but the cinnamon roll frosting recipe from this site. Thanks so much for helping me cure my fear of dough:)
I love this recipe! There were too many, so I actually made half, and froze the rest (without baking), and baked it when I need a sweet fix! easy and quick! Thanks!
These were great. My mom absolutely loved them. Thanks for the great recipe Sue.
This is what I grew up believing was a cinnamon roll. We always used my grandmothers biscuit recipe, but it calls for 8 cups of flour. (We use half the dough for biscuits, and the rest for cinnamon rolls.) This recipe is perfect when I just want a small batch. Thank you!
Easy, quick, great results. I wanted to make something different for a Birthday breakfast and doubled up this recipe. It turned out great and the family loved them. They were all gone. I made them again the following morning in the single recipe and again, they are gone. Great recipe I shall use often. Thankyou for sharing this recipe. Only one difference, I have a hot oven and turned the temperature setting down a bit.
I made a few modifications, because I like a little more cinnamon ;), but OMG these are seriously so good! I don't always have time to make cinnamon rolls, these are the next best thing (if not better!).
These are a great alternative to the yeast store bought rolls, My 10 yr old daughter and I both thought they were great!!!
My 9 year-old son made this recipe and had this to say: "I really liked it, but I thought it could be a little sweeter." I thought it was great that a 9 year-old could do this with very little help. He substituted whole wheat flour for half the flour and it added a slight nutty flavor. The whole family really liked the finished product. Tasted exactly like you would expect a cinnamon biscuit to taste!
These were amazing. Will definitely make them again. They are light and fluffy. I substituted the mild for buttermilk and added 1/4 tsp of baking soda as well. Brushed the tops with butter and additional cinnamon sugar. Loved them!
This recipe was fairly easy but I'd definitely tweak it more next time. The dough was a little dry so I added more butter and a bit more milk. The final biscuit was pretty bland and not sweet at all other than the filling. I think more butter and the addition of sugar to the dough would improve it greatly. I topped these with cream cheese frosting and that was the really tasty part. I'll try one of the other recipes next time.
Made a batch of these this morning, were gone by the afternoon! Was told that it was my fault that they were gone..... because they were just too good!!!! I have a feeling that I'll be making these often....
Tender, moist, quick and pretty! I will never buy canned cinnamon rolls again. These taste better and took me just 10 minutes to put together. I halved the recipe, added 2 tsp. of sugar to the dough to boost the sweetness of the biscuit and used a clear Pyrex dish. They were perfect!
First of all, let me say if you don't plan on making the glaze for these...don't make them at all! I made them for my 1 and 2 year old this morning, so I didn't use the glaze...in order to keep the mess to a minimum. The dough was horribly hard to work with (which I think has to do with the ratio of butter to flour.) After all when you make homemade regular biscuits that require two cups of flour, most recipes always use at least 1/2 cup of butter or shortening. The dough was very dry and very hard to knead. There was too much salt, especially without putting any sugar in the dough. So, if you are looking for a cinnamon roll don't make these...these are nothing more than rolled up dry tasteless biscuits. For all of you who gave such great reviews, either you all have a secret (which I implore you to share with the rest of us) or your taste buds just don't know any better. I think the concept of this recipe is fabulous....but not very well thought out. Needless to say...won't be making these again
Love this easy recipe, we made a mixture of brown sugar and cinnamon mixed with melted butter to make a filling. It was perfect. I only baked mine for about 15 minutes. Oh I also made the mistake of putting the cinnamon an sugar into the dough mix. However this was great . Thank you very much we make this at least once a month.
easy, but a not a smooth texture. They kind of crumbled when I served them.
Good but like the sour cream cinnamon biscuits better, I use the icing from this recipe on those biscuits.
We really loved these!! The glaze is definitely an important part of the recipe, but the texture of the biscuits is excellent. We like extra 'filling' - I just added an extra TB of butter to the cinnamon/sugar mixture. I may try these with a savory filling - maybe cheddar and garlic? mmmm
I thought these glazed cinnamon rolls were good and tasty. The recipe was fairly easy. They were good enough to make again but not great.
I mixed the cinnamon and sugar into the dough because I wasn't paying full attention to the recipe. It turned out reaally great and sweet!
Apparentky these were good.. my fiance ate them ALL in one night!
Very fluffy biscuits, good flavor and great texture. Definitely will make again. I did take other's recommendations and added 2tbsp sugar and some almond extract to the batter. Excellent.
I had a craving for cinnamon buns late at night and didn't want to wait for dough to rise. Very simple, tasted great.
These were great! So much quicker than cinnamon rolls, the texture was almost fluffier. My kids loved them and asked for them the 2 following mornings. I did add a little sugar to the flour mixture about 2 tbsp. Will definately make again!
First off, the directions are a bit confusing. It says to mix all dry ingredients, but really it is just the flour, baking powder and salt. I assumed all dry ingrediants meant including the cinnamon and sugar. My cinnamon rolls had an extra does of cinnamon and sugar. Secondly, the baking time is off. I baked mine for 18 minutes and they burnt. I would say 15 minutes would be good enough. The flavor of the rolls still turned out good. The outside was dry, but I assume that is because they baked too long. The inside was soft and yummy. I will bake these again, but will make sure to bake them less.
The kids and I LOVE this recipe!!! These biscuits do not last long in our house. Only changes we have made is adding 1/2c of sugar and sometimes using regular vanilla frosting instead of the glaze.
Nice, quick little recipe. I did what alot of others did and added 2tbsp of sugar, and dropped my oven temp to 375. I kept everything else the same, and these are a great little breakfast treat, my daughter and wife absolutely loved them.
These are great! Fairly easy too, but rolling dough takes some time. I used half whole wheat. I think next time I'll try all whole wheat. I'll be making these a lot!
Loved it. Added a cup of raisins. Kids helped, very family making friendly.
I liked this recipe, Definitely not a cinnamon bun but worked perfectly for a brunch item.
This recipe would receive 10 stars if that were possible. So easy and delicious. I have made them probably 6 times and they always turn out perfect. Better than yeast cinnamon rolls.
YUMMY! These were gone in seconds! I will make these every week! My kids loved them!
These are great! Very biscuit-like, but delicious! The glaze recipe is really sweet, that was just alright for my family - not excellent. We added some cinnamon to the glaze though to add a little more cinnamon flavor, and added sugar to the dough recipe like others suggested. Yummy!
AMAZING!! This was a very easy recipie. and you can't forget delish too! I found that my oven cooked the biscuits a little too quickly and I like mine doughy so next I will bake them for closer to 14 min next time. Also I found that I could have used more of the cinnamon sugar mixture because my family and I agreed that you couldn't really taste the cinnamon sugar. But I loved this recipe.. definitly a keeper!!
very simple, very good! you'll probably want to eat them all up while they're warm because like most biscuits, they dry up considerably after cooled & don't reheat quite as well as a traditional roll would.
