  1. Cook peas according to package directions. Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, melt the butter. Stir in the flour, salt and pepper until blended; gradually add milk and sugar. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 1-2 minutes or until thickened. Drain peas; stir into the sauce and heat through.

You can use canned peas for this, too. Just drain and reserve the liquid. I found that I needed to add some back in to thin the cream sauce a bit. A sprinkle of onion powder boosts the flavor...

Why add sugar to already sweet peas? Next time I will do it without the sugar.

Excellent taste. I didn't precook the peas, just thawed them and heated in the sauce. Will definately make agin.

My mom always made creamed peas on toast when we were children and it is one of my "comfort foods". Don't bother to cook the frozen peas ahead of time, add them frozen to the sauce and lightly ...

I've made this a couple of times to serve with salmon patties. The sugar makes the pea sauce just sweet enough.

Good basic recipe....I added a pinch of dill to the sauce, and extra salt and pepper. This really perked it up. Would definitely make again for a simple side.

This recipe is pretty much what my mom used to make for us. I will make this again and again but the only think I think I will do differently is add less sugar or none at all as I find the peas ...

I just made these and they are WONDERFUL! They remind me of my grandma's that I haven't had since I was little. The only thing I might try next time is to add pearl onions like she used to.
