Maple-Drizzled Apple Muffins
I've been baking for years and enjoy seeing the smiles on family members' faces whenever they sample one of my treats...like these delicious muffins!

Loved these. The maple flavour isn't too sweet -it's subtle and delicious. I made some changes to make these more nutritionally dense: I added 1c grated carrot with the 2c apple, increased the flour to 1.5c, and subbed 1c whole wheat flour for regular. I also subbed canola oil for the butter and threw a handful of dried cranberries with the nuts into the batter. They are still sweet enough that my kids gobble them up, but they pack a heftier nutritional punch. Thanks for sharing the recipe!!
Read MoreI've made this twice and have had epic failures both times. First time I made it according to recipe and the muffins came out too dry but when I added the glaze, it was sickeningly sweet. Second time I made it, I cut the oatmeal back to a half cup and the muffins bled all over my oven. I'm sure this is a decent muffin recipe for others but it was a flop for me which was a huge disappointment because I was really looking forward to these, nevermind the wasted time and ingredients both times. I would say it was operator error but I make A LOT of muffins, I doubt it was me.

These muffins were absolutely wonderful! I often bake muffins. These were so moist & Tasty. I didn't change anything in the recipe.
These are delicious! I made them tonight and loved them! Note, if you elimate the apples in this recipe like I did for one muffin, it will rise considerably and look much much nicer then the ones with apples in them. Next time, I'll also try cutting the apples smaller. I made them into about 1 1/2 cm cubes but they were a little too big for my liking. If you omit the apples all together, they are fantastic! I make them for breakfast all the time now! ^.^
This is the first year we've gotten apples off our tree and I've been looking for apple recipes. These are the BEST apple muffins I've made. I didn't change a thing. Biting into one is paradise. They are so moist and I love the maple flavor with the apple and oats. Thank you for sharing this recipe!!

These were so good! I did notice there was no salt called for, so I added 1/2 tsp and I think I would have missed it if I hadn't. I used brown sugar instead of white. Had a little crumb mixture left-over from making an apple crisp so I sprinkled that on top of muffins prior to baking and added imitation maple flavoring to the glaze as some reviews indicated that the maple was not strong enough. I will make these again and again.
Unfortunately, I did not get to try one of these. They were quickly gobbled down in the staff lounge, which must mean that they are delicious. I must say, they are some of the prettiest muffins I have made. Followed the directions, but added maple flavor to the glaze instead of the syrup. I will have to make again, so that I can try one.
These were a HUGE success at work! The maple drizzle makes them soooo yummy! Will definitely make again!
Wow. I just made these last night and didn't alter the recipe at all! They turned out great! Super moist and yummy! Thanks for a great recipe! :)
These were great and super easy! I made them for my husbands family and mine and they all loved them! The only thing is that I had to use a lot more syrup to make the glaze. I just started cooking so maybe I did it wrong, but hey they still turned out great!
Great muffins! They are moist, tender, and chock full of apple flavor. The aroma while they are baking is just wonderful...the only problem I had with the recipe is the fact that they have to cool before you can glaze them. They smell so good straight from the oven...:). I made a couple of slight changes...I used 1/3 oat flour instead of 1/3 cup of the white flour, and I didn't have any pecan halves left, so I just sprinkled them with chopped pecans after glazing. They came out tasting wonderful! These muffins didn't seem to rise very much, though...next time I will put more batter into each cup. Thanks for sharing this recipe!
It had good flavor, but my family did not like it. at all. I am thinking, though, that the problem is my family does not like oats inside the muffins - that seems to be the common factor in all the non-winner muffin recipes here.
YUMMY is the only thing I can say. I did change it just a bit, by shredding the apples instead of chopping them, and adding a touch of allspice and nutmeg. Not too sweet, not too oat-y. Thanks for the recipe! I'll be using it again and again =)
Took a little longer to cook. I used Rice Flour to make this healthier. Next time I might pan fry the apples a little before mixing them in. Hubby said the icing is very much needed and adds a nice touch.
Wasn't quite what I expected. These were okay, and will get eaten, but I don't think I'll make these again. Our muffins weren't terribly sweet, even though we followed the recipe exactly, and that made the glaze seem way too sweet - like what you'd find on a donut. In fairness, we used granny smith apples, because that's what we had, but we didn't think they were particularly tart. If you make these, though, you might want to choose a sweeter apple.
these muffins were so fast and easy. i grated the apple and didn't bother skinning. highly recommend doing it this way. i also grated in a large carrot. i used brown sugar instead of white, added some vanilla and a little salt and threw in a handful of wheat germ and also of flax seed meal. i also cut the butter back to 1/4 cup. these turned out delicious. i didn't even bother glazing them they are so yummy on their own.
These are moist, buttery, oaty deliciousness. The best part is the crunchy top. They are exceedingly sweet though, so I left off the maple glaze. Without the glaze, they don't have any maple flavor at all. I would make them again and adjust the sugar or leave out the maple syrup, then put on the glaze, although I would hate to lose the crispness of the top. No need to peel the apples as the skin isn't noticeable once baked.
These are really good. My husband loved them. I think next time I will coarse grate the apples instead of chopping.
delicious and moist. the drizzle makes them very candy-like (my husband's words). I used half wheat flour and went light on the sugar. highly recommended--i used real maple syrup too--the fake stuff probably makes them too sweet.
Husband says this is a 5-star muffin! I used some really mealy red delicious apples that I was about to throw away but he said the muffins were great. Certainly were easy to make.
These were very good. I can never stick to a recipe so here's what I modified: for the 2/3 cup of sugar, I did half brown sugar and half white; I replaced half the quantity of butter with apple sauce; I grated my apples instead of chopping them; I omitted the pecan halves and the glaze. The only negative thing I have to say is that I could not taste the maple syrup. Very good muffins nonetheless.
These are great muffins. I did add 1/2 a cup of butterscotch chips and 1/2 a cup of pecan pieces to the batter. Instead of maple syrup I used a butter pecan syrup because I don't like maple. I didn't need to put the glaze on them because they were sweet enough from the butterscotch chips. I also used splenda instead of regular surgar. I have a convection oven so I only needed to bake them 13 minutes.
I made these to use up some apples, and my husband loved them! I got 18 muffins out of the batch - maybe because I went heavy on the apples? I don't think the glaze has a strong enough maple taste - maybe I'll use more syrup next time. Overall, they're pretty tasty.
Really nice recipe for the fall!!! Really delicious and moist. I substitutes egg beaters and skim milk and they still came out perfect! My roommate and I who are maple fanatics LOVED LOVED LOVED these.
When I made these I did half brown sugar, half white and added the maple extract as some users suggested. I also couldn't find my muffin tin, so I made 4 mini loaves. BIG MISTAKE! It never fully cooked in the middle, so it had a bread pudding-like consistancy. The flavor was ok, but overall, I just wasn't thrilled with the texture and all. This one gets the round file. Sorry :o(
These are awesome muffins. I love maple flavor and these are great. I love the glaze. I was making some apple cookies that required a glaze as well and I used this glaze with a little bit of vanilla extract for the cookies too. fantastic recipe. However, it took much longer to bake than 18-20 minutes. I think I had mine in for 28 and they still seem like they could have used a little more time. Perhaps that's because I filled my muffin tins completely full. If I hadn't though, I would have had about 15 muffins instead of 12 and they would have been tiny. These didn't rise much.
I brought these to a faculty breakfast and they were gone before I even had a chance to taste one. I guess they were a five...
Turned out great! When I saw the finished muffin batter, I worried that the oats or apple would have too much crunch after baking. This was not a problem: the muffins turned out moist and soft throughout. I used Cortland apples and substituted maple sugar for half of the 2/3 cup sugar, which made the muffins sweet enough to not need any glaze.
What a delicious muffin! I had a couple apples that were sitting around so decided to make this. I was not disappointed at all. Next time, I think I will try to add a few pecans into the mix instead of on top. This is the perfect fall muffin.
This was a nice little muffin and pretty to look at. They are not too sweet and mildly spiced. I used buttermilk, rather than regular milk, hoping to get them to rise a little better. They were ok, but I still didn't get the kind of dome I would have liked. I was disappointed that the maple flavor wasn’t more pronounced. I could barely taste it.
*This is a review for the muffin itself*: this recipe yields moist, lovely muffins with nice hint of maple flavor in the muffin itself. I followed the recipe w/the exception of using unsweetened applesauce rather than butter (to make it a tad healthier). I could tell I would find the glaze to be way too sweet so I didn't bother with it, and enjoyed the muffin on its own. Thanks for sharing!
These muffins were delightful, easy, quick, delicious! I followed the recipe exactly except for adding a handfull of cranraisins. I am going to save thes recipe as a regular because I also feel that it is good for you.
These are really good! I didnt change a thing and they came out just fine. A keeper!
These muffins are so good. I doubled the recipe and I ended up with 24 regular muffins and 24 mini ones, and I filled my tins almost full. I used applesauce instead of butter and maple flavored pancake syrup instead of real maple syrup. It has more maple flavor and is way cheaper than the real thing.I also didn't add the pecans(didn't have any in the house)
Loved this recipe!! Definitely 5 stars!!! Followed the recipe exactly, except that I used half brown/half white sugar. Baking time for me was just under 18 minutes, so you might want to check them a little early :~)
I loved these muffins and so has everyone I have served them to. I thought it sounded like a lot of apples when I first made them, but using that much apples makes for a perfectly moist muffin!
PERFECT! I didn't change a thing, well except the pecan on top, but it seemed more decorative than anything, so thats okay. Also, I only had gala apples are was worried it would be a little too sweet since I usually bake with tart apples, but these were amazing. I didn't have pure maple syrup, so I used normal ol' pancake syrup. I only glazed half of them because I couldn't wait to eat them, and they are perfect either way. 5 stars all the way! Perfect fall muffic recipe.
Very tasty! I made them with slightly more apple and without the maple drizzle on top.
These muffins were WONDERFUL! Though the glaze was great, it wasn't needed as the muffins themselves had just the right sweetness. The only problem I had was that there was too much batter for my muffin pan. Not a big deal, but a little bit of a hassle, having to do a second batch for just three extra muffins!
Great muffins.. I didn't have maple syrup or butter, so I used honey, and soya oil instead. Results? Prefectly soft, moist and delicious muffins! Will be making these again and again!
These were a big hit. They freeze well. We are only 2, and we can`t eat that many muffins at once. I used fresh apples that we picked ourselves.
I just made this recipe for the first time. These muffins are great! Another reviewer had noted that they could be a little more moist, so I added 1/4 cup of apple cider. It made the batter rather runny, but the muffins are moist and delicious!
These muffins were very good and very easy to make! I shredded the apples instead of dicing them and I followed the rest of the recipe exactly as written. I made them into mini-muffins instead of large muffins which only took 11 minutes to bake and were perfect for my preschooler and his friends!
Love them!!!! My kids equated them to a cupcake because of the drizzle, but they are so much better for them. I will be making these often!
Delicious! Made it pretty much as the recipe directed except I used my own homemade syrup. Also didn't add the pecans. I have been hard pressed to find a muffin recipe that was this good. I will definitely add this to my regular recipes! I used the apple this first time but I think other additions would be good as well, I am excited to experiment with this recipe!
Lovely recipe, substituted 1/3 sugar with brown sugar, and added chopped pecans to the muffin mix, which was a better use of the pecans than placing one on top.
these get mixed review from me: the bad first: I found them to be bland and the frosting sickening sweet; I didn't even put it on the muffins after tasting the frosting. I also could not detect the maple flavor in it at all. The good: I got a nice textured and moist muffin. Just bland. I even used a tart apple. I would try it again but.....subsitute brown sugar and or more maple sugar for the white sugar.*Tried a second time: subsituted brown sugar for white, added a pinch of nutmeg and ginger. Much better!
These were wonderful!! I made the muffins in a large muffin pan, instead of a small one, so I had 6 large muffins. It was just enough to fill the 6 cups 3/4 full. The pecan at the top didn't add very much - I would probably skip it next time. The confectioners sugar should also be sifted first. Overall these were a big hit in my house and I would definitely make them again!
These didn't have any flavor, it tasted sweet and that's it. The maple drizzle was overly sweet. I ate half of one muffin and hubby took a few bite of his, it sat on the dining room table for days, the kids nor nanny ate it, the rest went in the garbage. I used gala apples and oil instead of butter. I will not make these again.
I'm going to consider myself the aberrant reviewer that didn't like the glaze with these... mine was really goopy and I didn't like the overpowering maple flavor. I was very happy I tried it on a sample before I put it on all of them. Other than that, it was a yummy muffin.
The were good, but a little too moist for my taste. The glaze was a little too sticky and did not harden for me. I'm wondering if I needed to use a better quality syrup. That may have helped. They still tasted great, just messy.
These came out awesome. I added twice as much cinnamon and used old fashioned oats but otherwise followed the recipe exactly.
I thought these were pretty good. Family didn't like them though. I found they didn't hold together very well and were kind of crumbly..not sure where I went wrong
These muffins are amazing. I've learned from making various apple muffin recipes to always up the spices, so I added another 1/2tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp cloves and 1/2 tsp nutmeg also. I did not add the frosting as I'm hoping to have these as a breakfast treat. I used walnuts in place of pecans and added raisins. Very tasty, especially warm.
YUMMY! I did add about 1/4 cup of apple sauce to moisten the muffins & about 1/4 cup of flaxseed meal to give it some hidden nutrition. This recipe was awesome! I also didn't melt the butter.
Really good and easy I added oatbran and flax seed and whole wheat flour for half the white.....I'll be making this again and again.....
The actual muffin part was great. The glaze made them very sticky.
These muffins are very good. The glaze really tops them off. They could stand to be just a little more moist. I might do some tweaking. But overall a great recipe.
