  1. In a soup kettle or Dutch oven over medium heat, brown the sausage and onion. Slowly add the potatoes, water, parsley, basil, salt and pepper; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 15-20 minutes or until potatoes are tender. Add remaining ingredients; cook 5-10 minutes longer or until heated through.

Good recipe. I modified it a little, left out the basil, simply b/c I didn't have any, and added red pepper flakes and paprika. Also substituted cream for the evaporated milk and creamed corn....

I used dried herbs instead of fresh, which may have made enough of a difference? Definitely needed more salt. Thanks for the post, but we personally prefer other sausage chowder recipes.

My family loves this soup, even my son who doesn't like soups. It is quick to prepare and tasty. A real winner with my family!
