Apple Cake

Rated as 4.33 out of 5 Stars

"IOWA--'We are retired and not longer have an orchard, but we bury crisp apples each fall from a nearby fruit grower. My husband and I really enjoy them, so we always get several bushels. We each eat an apple a day in winter. 'For get-togethers, I like to make apple pie, apple salad or Apple Cake (recipe below). It's a moist yummy cake with a rich sweet butter sauce.' --Leona Luecking, West Burlington"

This cake got rave reviews when I recently served it at a party. I made a couple of small changes: the batter seemed stiff, so I added 1/2 cup apple sauce to it, and I made only half the butter ...

This was fantastic. I only gave it 4 stars though because I made some changes. First, I used 1 cup of almonds instead of 1/2 cup of walnuts. For the sauce, I left out the brown sugar and only us...

This recipe was FABULOUS! I skipped the butter sauce, and dusted with powdered sugar and served warm with whipped cream. (Tho it is GREAT without anything on it as well!) I also thought the batt...

I didn't make the butter sauce, but this was so good without it! It must be 5 + stars with the butter sauce. I didn't have the right pan, so I made cupcakes/ muffins instead.

I have been searching for a apple cake recipe like my Granmda Snoen used to make- I believe this is about as close as I can come.

I have been making a similar version of this cake for the past several years after we pick apples at the orchard. This apple cake is very good "without" the topping. The topping is very sweet ...

Delicious! Great way to use apples. Didn't try the sauce. It stayed very moist (even though it was thoroughly baked).

Hhhhmmmm,I made this at 12 in the morning and it was all done by around 2 given that I am a beginner. I had to use grated lemon peeling instead of vanilla because we didn't have any vanilla(its...

Delicious and sweet. Next time I would only use half the butter sauce. Definitely would need some tea with this flavorful cake.
