Directions
{{model.addEditText}} Print- In a large mixing bowl, cream shortening and sugar. add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. beat in vanilla. combine the flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt; gradually add to creamed mixture.
- Roll into 1-1/2-in. balls. Place 2 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 350 degrees F for 13-16 minutes or until set. Remove to wire racks to cool.
- For frosting, in a mixing bowl, combine the confectioners' sugar, cocoa, butter and extract. Add enough milk to achieve spreading consistency. Frost cooled cookies.

these cookies are best right out of the oven. After that they are dry and almost inedible without the frosting.
