"I have played around with this old family recipe adding nuts, chips etc. and it always turns out really good and if made ahead is really quick when you need cookies in a hurry."

Original recipe yields 48 servings (3 - 4 dozen)

  1. Cream together butter or margarine, brown sugar, and white sugar. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Mix in flour, salt and baking soda.
  2. Roll dough into 2 inch diameter logs. Wrap in waxed paper and freeze.
  3. Slice and bake anytime at 325 degrees F (165 degrees C) until light brown.

What do I do with the walnuts?

Great cookie, simple and easy to make ahead. I did use baking powder at 1.5 tsp instead, and pecans-because I had them. Seems like you could change this up many ways.
