When it comes to CBD edibles, there are a lot of different options to choose from, including hemp-infused chocolates, gummies, and even CBD cookies. You may be able to find a few CBD-infused desserts for sale online, but making them at home can be a quick and easy way to ingest a bit of CBD while enjoying a tasty treat.

What Is a CBD Cookie?

Like any other cookie that you might make at home or buy in-store, CBD cookies are made from typical baking ingredients, with the addition of one very important chemical compound — cannabidiol, or CBD.

CBD oil (sometimes referred to as hemp oil) has become an increasingly popular addition to a variety of products, including topical lotions, gel capsules, and tons of foods, because of its many potential benefits. CBD is a cannabinoid found in cannabis plants, but it is most commonly derived from hemp. Hemp plants have naturally high amounts of CBD and low levels of THC, which means that CBD oils and other products won't create the same psychotropic effects as marijuana strains of cannabis. For this reason, many people are not only interested in trying CBD, but are also creating new and innovative ways to ingest the therapeutic compound.

This is where CBD edibles come into play. Cookies in particular are newer to the CBD scene, and most people opt to make them at home since baked goods are best when they are fresh.

Best CBD Oils for Baking Cookies

Over the last year, I’ve tested more than 100 brands, including a detailed review of each company’s third-party lab tests. When it comes to making CBD cookies at home, I apply similar review measures to pick the best CBD oils for baking. I take a close look into the hemp source and manufacturing processes, all because I want to be sure I’m buying a safe, tested product. In my own time, I’ve tried making a few batches of CBD-infused cookies and have tested out different CBD oil brands to see which had the best flavor and end result.

In my experience, these are the best CBD oils for baking cookies:

What CBD Potency Should You Use for Baking?

How much CBD you put into your cookies depends solely on your own preference and experience with CBD products, as well as your baking portions. CBD oils come in a variety of flavors and strengths, and it's really up to the user to determine how many milligrams of CBD suits them.

For instance, if you take half a teaspoon (around 2 milliliters of oil) of a CBD tincture that contains 20 milligrams per milliliter, you'll end up with roughly 40 milligrams of CBD within the entire batch. If you made 10 cookies in total, each would contain 4 milligrams of CBD. This is a pretty low dose, but it's a good starting point if you're new to trying CBD (or if you plan to eat more than one cookie in a single sitting). But there's always the option to create a more potent CBD cookie with a stronger CBD oil — the choice is up to you.

Chocolate Chip CBD Cookie Recipe

Perhaps the most popular at-home cookie recipe is none other than the chocolate chip cookie, so we've modified this cookie recipe to have an added twist and incorporate a bit of CBD oil.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon of CBD oil
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons water
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
  • Cream together the butter, brown sugar, and white sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract and CBD oil.
  • Place water in a pot or pan, bring to a boil, remove from heat, and dissolve baking soda in hot water.
  • Add baking soda and water mixture to batter along with salt. Stir in flour, chocolate chips, and nuts. Drop by large spoonfuls onto ungreased pans.
  • Bake for about 12 minutes in the preheated oven, or until edges are nicely browned.
