Ask that question to a handful of people and you'll get as many different responses as there are options in a variety bag of Halloween candy. That's why we decided to go to you, the Allrecipes community, to reach a consensus on which Halloween candies are the best. We asked for your favorites on social media, tallied up the results, and now we have the definitive rankings. From classic chocolate bars to old-school confections, these are the best Halloween candies of all time. 21. Peanut M&Ms Target Buy Now To round out the list, we have the second most popular variety of candy-coated chocolate: Peanut M&Ms! These offer a bit more crunch and salty-sweet flavor than the original. Buy it: $4; target.com 20. Coffee Crisp Amazon Buy Now Consider yourself lucky if you can get your hands on this Canadian-made chocolate bar in America — layers of vanilla wafer and a coffee-flavored creme are covered in a milk chocolate coating. Buy it: $21; amazon.com 19. Payday Target Buy Now A Payday is essentially a Baby Ruth without the chocolate coating. It's highly underrated, but clearly has quite a few fans in our community. Buy it: $4; target.com 18. Reese's TAKE 5 Bar Target Buy Now If you're someone who doesn't like to compromise, let me introduce you to the TAKE 5 Bar. It gets its name for its five layers of sweet and salty flavors: pretzels, peanut butter, peanuts, sweet caramel, and milk chocolate. Buy it: $4; target.com 17. Hershey's Bar Target Buy Now There's nothing too exciting about a classic Hershey's Milk Chocolate bar, but you'll be hard pressed to find anyone who would reject it when offered. These all-American candy bars are best enjoyed on s'mores, so be sure to save some for your next campfire. Buy it: $4; target.com 16. Peanut Butter Kisses Walmart Buy Now It can be difficult to find these old-school candies in stores anymore, especially among all the name brand giants in the candy aisle, but the Allrecipes community has not forgotten Peanut Butter Kisses. They're essentially peanut butter taffy pieces wrapped in orange and black wrappers...if you know, you know. Buy it: $40 for Set of 3; walmart.com 15. 100 Grand Target Buy Now If the name isn't enough to draw you in, let the chewy caramel and crispy rice filling do the work. Originally known as the $100,000 Bar, it gets its name for its ultra-rich flavors. Buy it: $4; target.com 14. Heath Bars Target Buy Now You don't need a sophisticated palate to enjoy the buttery English toffee coated in milk chocolate. But you will need to brush your molars vigorously afterwards. Buy it: $4; target.com 13. M&M's Target Buy Now Personally, I prefer my M&Ms in a dessert, but there's no wrong way to enjoy these candy-coated chocolate pieces. Nowadays, there are quite a few variations on the market, including peanut (see #21), peanut butter (which racked up a few votes of its own), pretzel, and more. We're particularly excited about these glow in the dark fun size M&Ms for Halloween. Buy it: $4; target.com 12. Mounds Target Buy Now Almond Joy's darker, almond-less cousin is perfect for dark chocolate-lovers. Or anyone who prefers their chocolate without nuts. Buy it: $4; target.com 11. Midnight Milky Ways Walmart Buy Now Milky Way's sinister sister, the Midnight Milky Way, has a growing fanbase. Though you'll find the original Milky Way bar further down the list, the Midnight version garnered quite a few votes of its own. Unlike the original which uses chocolate nougat, the Midnight bar is made with vanilla nougat topped with caramel and covered in dark chocolate. Buy it: $12; walmart.com 10. Baby Ruth Walmart Buy Now A very chewy mixture of peanuts, caramel, and nougat is coated in milk chocolate. It's not usually the favorite among trick-or-treaters, but its nostalgic appeal often makes it a hit among parents. Buy it: $5; walmart.com 9. 3 Musketeers Target Buy Now Many of the front runners on this list combine nougat with something else like caramel, peanuts, rice cereal, etc. — but not 3 Musketeers. This candy bar consists of just two parts: Fluffy nougat and a chocolate coating. It's truly made for those who enjoy life's simple pleasures. Buy it: $4; target.com 8. Candy Corn Target Buy Now If there's one candy that folks love to hate, it's candy corn. But these misunderstood mellowcreme treats are actually quite beloved by many. Regardless of how you feel about them, there's no denying candy corn has skyrocketed from a humble confection to a seasonal icon throughout its 100+ year history. Buy it: $3; target.com 7. Almond Joy Target Buy Now You'll find two types of trick-or-treaters on Halloween: The ones who leave all the Almond Joys at the bottom of their bags and the ones who eat all the Almond Joys from the bottom of everyone else's bags. Coconut tends to be a divise ingredient in itself, but add it to a chocolate bar and you've suddenly alienated an entire subsection of candy consumers. Interestingly enough, these coconut- and almond-filled chocolate bars made our top 10, proving they might not be so divisive as we have been led to believe. Buy it: $4; target.com 6. Butterfinger Target Buy Now Crispy, crunchy, almost toffee-like layers of crystalized peanut butter are enrobed in a milk chocolate coating to make one of the most recognizable candy bars out there. Buy it: $4; target.com 5. Twix Target Buy Now A shortbread-like cookie covered in caramel and chocolate — what more can one ask for from a candy bar? The simultaneous crunch of the cookie and chewiness of the caramel is pure bliss. Whether or not there is a difference between the left Twix and the right Twix has been subject to much Reddit debate, but you can test the theory for yourself with this pack of fun size Twix that features both the left and right varieties. Buy it: $5; target.com 4. Kit Kat Target Buy Now While you can break us off a piece of that, I'd think we'd all prefer to have our own KitKat bar. The chocolate-covered wafers are so irresistibly light and crispy, it makes sharing all the more difficult. Check out their Halloween variety pack featuring the classic chocolate bar as well as ghoulish green and orange bars. Buy it: $4; target.com 3. Milky Way Target Buy Now Milky Way stealthily made its way to the top of the list, and though it doesn't get a lot of glory, it's no surprise this classic candy bar is a fan-favorite: It's essentially a Snickers bar without the peanuts. You'll find its dark chocolate counterpart also made the top 20. Buy it: $4; target.com 2. Reese's Peanut Butter Cups Target Buy Now It was a close race between Snickers and Reese's, with the latter coming up short of Snickers by just a few votes. The simple combination of chocolate and peanut butter is hard to beat...and even harder to stop eating after just one. Plus, the folks at Reese's always provide assorted Halloween shapes and fun flavor combinations to keep things exciting. Buy it: $5; target.com 1. Snickers Target Buy Now The Allrecipes community loves a classic, and few things are more classic than the time-honored combination of nougat, caramel, peanuts, and chocolate. You could say this chocolate bar has a little something for everyone. And while you can find Snickers bars year round, the fun-size bars just feel extra special on Halloween — maybe it's the fact that you can get so many flavors and textures in one or two bites. Or maybe it's just the Halloween magic. Buy it: $4; target.com Related: What's the Favorite Halloween Candy in Your State?
