Just a few short weeks after beginning its menu simplification (RIP the popcorn chicken), KFC has announced the return of one of its most iconic sandwiches. After nearly a decade-long hiatus, the Double Down sandwich is officially coming back to KFC for a limited time.

If you don’t remember the sandwich that The New York Times called “a disgusting meal, a must-to-avoid,” the Double Down is a breadless sandwich that uses two pieces of fried chicken as the bun. Between the fried chicken pieces you'll find hickory smoked bacon, cheese, and either mayo or spicy sauce.

The sandwich was originally thought to be an April Fool's prank when it was announced in 2010. However, after its limited run sold more than 10 million sandwiches, KFC decided to keep the Double Down around for a while. Its last official menu appearance was in 2014 and we haven’t seen the sandwich since—to many fans’ despair.

For nearly 10 years, fans of the Double Down have been calling for its return and KFC is giving the people what they want. The Double Down is returning to restaurants nationwide, but, much like most revival tours there is a catch; it’s only available for four weeks.

The sandwich will join the menu again on March 6, but select diehard fans can get an early taste by pre-ordering the sandwich on KFC’s Double Down Drop site. The first 2,014 customers who sign up can enjoy the sandwich on March 5.

If you aren’t a Double Down fan or are just looking to try something new, KFC is also adding a Bacon & Cheese Chicken Sandwich to its limited menu. The new sandwich is a nod to the Double Down complete with crispy chicken, bacon, cheese, mayo, and pickles, but it’s served on a toasted brioche bun.

You don’t want to miss the Double Down this time because there’s no telling if or when we’ll see it in the future—especially if the sandwich haters have anything to say about it again.
