10 Must-Try Marvel-Themed Eats at Disneyland's Avengers Campus

Avengers assemble! And get ready to eat your way through the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Disneyland's Avengers Campus is finally open at Disney California Adventure Park, and the best part of this comic book-inspired park isn't the new attraction or the character meet-and-greets. It's all of the new themed food, from radioactive Hulk soda to molecular candy a la Ant-Man. And, yes, there's tons of shawarma. Here are the top 10 must-try treats at Avengers Campus, plus how to recreate some of these dishes at home.

Shawarma

"I don't know what it is, but I'd like to try it." If, like Tony Stark, you've never had shawarma, there are two Shawarma Palace kiosks at Avengers Campus to try the post-saving-the-world food. The Levantine pita wrap is kind of like a gyro, but with different spices. And while most commonly prepared with lamb, the shawarma at Avengers Campus is made with chicken. It's got heat, but it's balanced by a creamy garlic spread and coconut yogurt tahini sauce. If you want to try shawarma at home, check out this marinated chicken or this seasoning mix.

Falafel

Plant-based fans can also snag a tasty wrap at Shawarma Palace. The Impossible Victory Falafel features the same garlic spread, pickled veggies, and coconut yogurt-tahini sauce as the shawarma, but instead of chicken, it has falafel and cauliflower. Whip up something similar at home with this falafel sandwich recipe.

Pingo Doce

Remember the fictional soda factory that Bruce Banner worked at in The Incredible Hulk? If you watched the movie and wondered what Pingo Doce tastes like, you can now try the bright green soda in real life — though thankfully without any accidental gamma exposure. You'll find it at the Coca-Cola Freestyle stations inside PYM Test Kitchen in both regular and sugar-free versions.

As for taste, it's become quite a polarizing beverage with immediate love-it-or-hate-it reactions from park guests. Unlike in the movie, it's not a Brazilian guarana soda. It tastes more like a Sprite ice cream float topped with a splash of Mello Yello that's then melted down, re-carbonated, and chilled into one soda.

Not So Little Chicken Sandwich

Beyond soda, PYM Test Kitchen is full of fun eats. Inspired by Hank Pym's particle work, everything at the lab-turned-restaurant is the result of molecular experiments gone wrong. Larger than life ketchup and mustard bottles are suspended from the ceiling in a "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" vibe. And menu items are comically altered, too, from super-sized pretzels to tiny sandwich buns like the Not So Little Chicken Sandwich. You can recreate it at home with chicken schnitzel patties and brioche sliders.

Choco Smash

Desserts at PYM Test Kitchen have a play on size, too, with the Choco Smash. This candy bar is massive — probably the size of at least four regular candy bars — and it looks like it busted through the candy wrapper as it was accidentally super-sized in the lab. It even has a fake barcode.

But here's why a candy bar should be the #1 thing you try at Avengers Campus: It's everything you love about Snickers but with an additional brownie base. Oh, yeah. It's good. If you can't make it down to Disneyland just yet, get the same flavor at home with these Snickers brownies.

Proton PB&J Punch

PYM Test Kitchen doesn't just play on sizes. It plays on flavors, too. And if you thought lemon-lime cream soda was divisive, brace yourself for the Proton PB&J Punch. Yep, peanut butter punch. If you've ever had a PB&J smoothie from Whole Foods, it's a lot like that with the strawberry/nut butter combo. But the strange thing about this punch is that it's not creamy. It's like an old-fashioned strawberry punch with a slight spritz. And in taste the peanut butter is totally there.

We're still not sure how the chefs at Disney pulled this one off. For something similar, you could try this strawberry lemonade with this peanut butter cold cream on top. But the proton punch is really one of those Disney drinks you'll have to try in person for the full, bizarre experience.

Impossible Spoonful

Impossible Foods has a heavy, sponsored presence at Avengers Campus, and that means the park offers several plant-based meat options, such as the Impossible Spoonful. Instead of spaghetti and meatballs, it's one giant meatball served in a hilariously giant ladle with a teeny, tiny fork. And the pasta is mismatched in size, too. You can make it at home by combining large rigatoni and small ditalini.

Caesar Salad + Colossal Crouton

Even the salad is cartoonish at Avengers Campus. Order the Caesar Salad at PYM Test Kitchen and you'll get a romaine wedge with one giant crouton. Yep, just the one. Recreate it at home with these garlic crouton slices. And while we don't have a recipe for a super-sized salad, we do have these mini Caesar salads on a stick!

Cosmic Cream Orb

Beyond life on Earth, you'll find several out-of-this-world eats inspired by Guardians of the Galaxy and other Marvel franchises at the Terran Treats kiosk. The Thanos-purple Cosmic Cream Orb is an absolute must. It's a chocolate-coated choux pastry stuffed with raspberry cheesecake mousse. And it is oh-so good. Spiral Rations

Another galactic bite at Terran Treats looks very similar to an iconic snack already found at Disneyland: Churros. The Sweet Spiral Ration is basically a coiled up churro. But don't be fooled by the infinity stone-colored varieties. The colors never match the flavors. The flavors are said to rotate by surprise. When I visited, I tried a green ration that tasted like pineapple. It was definitely unexpected.

And the texture is different, too. By winding the churro up, the outer ring becomes extra crunchy while the inside becomes ooey, gooey heaven. Try coiling churros at home or experimenting with funky flavors with this recipe.
