We love a good teriyaki take-out joint. A food box full of beautiful mahogany-colored grilled chicken tucked beside a mound of white rice! You can't beat teriyaki chicken for simple, savory pleasures on the quick! But we also like to try our hand at making our own homemade chicken teriyaki. It's easy, and the care you put into the simple preparations really shows in the end result. Here we've gathered together a multitude of our favorite teriyaki chicken recipes -- including some fun variations on the theme -- looking at you, teriyaki chicken meatballs!

But first, here's Chef John to explain the meaning of teriyaki. "The term comes from of two Japanese words 'teri' and 'yaki'. Teri refers to the shine or luster of the glazed sauce, and yaki means to broil or grill the meat." Got it? Great. Now let's get to the good stuff!

Here's Chef John's authentic Japanese version of chicken teriyaki, featuring a very simple marinade, with soy sauce, sake, and mirin as the base, plus brown sugar, ginger, and chopped green onions. You'll cook the chicken under the broiler until it's a beautiful, shiny mahogany color. "I've been looking for a recipe that taste just like the teriyaki joints in town and this was a winner," says Liz Brock.

Here's a quick and easy version of teriyaki that spruces up bottled teriyaki sauce with a little lemon juice, garlic, and sesame oil. "Chicken breasts are marinated in teriyaki sauce, then grilled to a tasty finish," says prissycat. "Very easy and great for a hot summer's evening. Leftovers are great on a green salad or sandwich. Be sure to grill very hot and very fast!!"

Pressure Cooker Teriyaki Chicken

Here's one for the pressure cooker. There's no marinating with this recipe. Just combine the ingredients in the pressure cooker -- dinner cooks in about 20 minutes. "I combined other teriyaki recipes to make up a yummy version for my favorite cooker: my electric pressure cooker," says LESLIESAMI. "I used a mix of boneless skinless thighs and chicken tenders. Serve with spaghetti or rice noodles and broccoli...YUM!!"

An easy teriyaki marinade for baked chicken wings gets its sweet tropical tang from pineapple juice. "This is my go to teriyaki wings recipe," says theharrower. "The longer they marinate the better. While baking the wings in the oven, I simmer the sauce on the stove with 1/4 cup of cold water and 1 Tbs of corn starch. Once finished I toss the wings in the sauce. You can also put pineapple rings on top of the wings half way through baking. They come out great."
