15 Best Air Fryer Sides for Dinner
Use your trusty air fryer for all the sides you'd normally roast, deep fry, or saute — and even some you'd bake. From crispy potatoes to light and herby ratatouille, these 15 air-fried side dishes will round out your dinners without all the extra oil.
Air Fryer Zucchini Chips
Enjoy crispy, cheesy zucchini chips without the guilt of deep frying. It's the best way to use up those mounds of summer zucchini from the garden. Enjoy with marinara sauce, ranch dressing, or Sun-Dried Tomato Dip. "These were crispy, crunchy good, and the Parmesan flavor in the breading really shines through," says lutzflcat. "I think I may have sliced my zucchini too thinly. Next time, I'll aim for about 1/8" thickness, so I'll get more of the zucchini taste."
Air-Fried Ratatouille, Italian-Style
Traditional ratatouille vegetables combine with Italian herbs in this air-fried side dish. It's quick and easy, nutritious, and delicious. Buckwheat Queen says, "Using an air fryer keeps the vegetables from getting soggy without using too much oil." She recommends using the baking accessory or an adaptable baking dish inside the air-fryer basket.
Rosemary Potato Wedges for the Air Fryer
Make rosemary potato wedges in your air fryer. "They are quicker and just as tasty as roasting them in your oven," says Bibi, "and you don't need to heat up the whole house to do them! I used the recipe for Papa's Seasoning Salt. Serve with your favorite aioli or dipping sauce." Air-fried French fries and potato wedges come out crispy and golden on the outside, tender on the inside without being dried out, which can happen when "frying" in conventional ovens.
You only need 1 tablespoon of oil to make these crispy fries. "Excellent recipe," says Buckwheat Queen. "The timing was perfect. At 13 minutes the potatoes were crispy outside and soft inside. I left the skins on." Use a spiralizer (with the medium grating attachment) to cut the potatoes into long curlies, cutting them with kitchen shears after four or five turns.
Air Fryer Roasted Cauliflower
Air Fryer Baked Potatoes
"Beautifully crusty on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside," says Bren, "just like a great baked potato should be! Serve them with your favorite topping, like sour cream, butter, or chives." Unlike oven-baked potatoes, these taters don't need to be pricked with a fork before cooking or turned while cooking.
Air Fryer Roasted Broccoli and Cauliflower
Air Fryer Sweet Potato Tots
These sweet potato tots are lighter when made in the air fryer, and they come with a spicy kick. Enjoy with ketchup or your favorite dipping sauces. "The sweet and spicy were a nice contrast," says Buckwheat Queen. "They go very well with hamburgers. My kids liked these a lot."
Air Fryer Root Vegetables with Vegan Aioli
"People, if you do not make this recipe then you are missing out. I made a regular aoli, and we couldn't stop eating it. We make this weekly because it is good for you, tastes amazing, and everyone loves it," reviewer Tuscan_Italian says. This recipe packs parsnips, carrots, baby red potatoes, and red onion into the air fryer.
Air Fryer Brussels Sprouts
"Sweet and tart balsamic vinegar pairs well with the bitterness of Brussels sprouts; the bacon adds a smokey flavor. After 10 minutes, there's still some bite to the sprouts; add a few more minutes for a softer texture, if desired," recipe creator Bren says. Brussels sprouts cook much faster in the air fryer than in the oven, saving you precious time on weeknights.
Air Fryer Roasted Okra
If you can't handle slimy okra, let your air fryer work its magic. As with roasting, air frying okra leaves it much firmer than stewing it. "This is one of those recipes you will use weekly. I've made it four times and loved it each time. I even used pickled okra and it was out of this world delicious. No slime at all! Add hot pepper flakes, sriracha salt, or whatever spices you like. I even used bacon grease once," reviewer Buckwheat Queen says.
Air Fryer Mushrooms
"The mushrooms absorbed more flavor in the air fryer and also got a better crisp on them," reviewer Soup Loving Nicole says. "This will be my go to from now on." These savory mushrooms make a substantial side, whether served beside meat or on a plate of veggies.
Air Fryer Spicy Green Beans
Dotted with red pepper flakes, these Asian-inspired green beans will take dinner up a few notches. Reviewer Danielle Trevino uses this recipe with asparagus, too. Why not?
Chinese Five-Spice Air Fryer Butternut Squash Fries
"These 'fries' made with Chinese five-spice powder are sweet and spicy, and they're a fiber-full, lower-carb alternative to French fries. Made in the air fryer, they're less messy and can cook up while the rest of your meal is in the making," recipe creator Angela Sackett Superhotmama says. Getting kids to eat squash has never been easier.
Air Fryer Fried Green Tomatoes
Would you believe you can cook this classic Southern dish with just 1 tablespoon of olive oil? Panko bread crumbs, corn meal, buttermilk, and eggs give these tomatoes an oh-so-crunchy coating.
