SugarDuJour

I have been cooking most of my life, starting out for the family while my parents both worked full time. It is sometimes difficult to try new things, because I don't have open-minded taste buds! I usually stick to the tried and true, but this site gave me inspiration to think outside the cans! I am working on opening my own cake shop in the next couple of years, and for now I make specialty cakes and sweet treats out of my home.
Maple Dill Carrots

I have made these 3 holidays in a row and everyone loves them! I have used baby carrots but they get too soggy. Allow yourself some extra time with the butter and brown sugar as it takes a little while for it to thicken up. This is an excellent recipe!!

Sweet and Sour Sauce II

I made this for meatballs and everyone said it was better than a restaurant. I used 1 cup water and 1 cup pineapple juice, and used half brown sugar for the sugar. I would recommend only 1/2 cup vinegar, it is a little overpowering but an excellent sauce!!

Spinach Tomato Tortellini

I found this recipe using the "ingredients"option at the top of the page because I had random things in my pantry. This was awesome! I served it with fish and steamed carrots and my boyfriend ate more of this then anything else. The serving size was perfect for just me and him, and we had enough for lunch the next day. I used frozen spinach that I thawed and squeezed the water out of. It was pretty rich so next time I will use less cream and more milk but it was DELICIOUS!

These were pretty good. I definetely recommend using the toothpicks because I couldn't get the tortillas to fold securely. I would use smaller ones next time. It was almost too spicy for me so I suggest tasting as you go.

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

These are exactly what the title says! The picture does them no justice. Very important to underbake a little. I was skeptical at first given the amount of dough it said to spoon onto the baking sheet, but the bigger I made them, the better!

I recently moved in with my boyfriend and he only has a stove, not an oven. I made this completely on the stovetop and it came out perfect. It was only him and I so I cut the recipe in half and it was still a lot. I used 1 cup milk since I had to simmer it on the stove but it was delicious!

Classic Tiramisu

My first time making any sort of Tiramisu and my boyfriend was totally blown away. I was fortunate enough to find the ladyfingers for 1.06 a package and the mascarpone was 3.99 for a 16 oz. tub. Not one reviewer gave advice on how to keep the outer ladyfingers upright while preparing so it was a challenge. Mine were crunchy so I dipped them for just a second and they came out perfect. I used 1/2 Bailey's (because I always have some around) and 1/2 strong coffee. I would recommend to the cooks that had problems with it setting properly: it's always a good idea to fold in a little of the cream at a time, and be gentle. Thanks Carol for the great recipe!!

Look NO more for a perfect cheesecake. This is it! Extremely dense, like a great one should be. Great flavor, great texture. Thank you Chantal!! UPDATE: Have made this one several times now...this is cheesecake perfection! If you do get cracks, cover them up with garnishes and decorating.

Olive Chicken II

I made this recipe exactly as written and it turned out fantastic! To the reviewers that found it dry or overcooked, try flipping the chicken over halfway through, and I even basted it every 10 minutes or so. As per other reviewers, I was afraid the final product would be too salty, so I didn't add any salt and it was perfect. I used all chicken stock, as I don't care for wine in cooking, and used cornstarch to thicken the sauce when it was done to pour on the top. It was great!

I only gave these 3 stars because they were a bit salty. Too salty to eat, actually. But the general flavor and texture was good. I halved the recipe and still came out with 8 patties.

These definitely should be marinated overnight. The flavor was great. I even basted them while grilling with a little EVOO mixed with lime juice and chili powder. Gave it great color and flavor.

These were great! Tasted just like Mom's. Nutmeg is the key. I used nonfat milk instead of evaporated and served on top of mashed potatoes. Have made this a few times now. Love it!
